The Hague (dpa) - Police believe the suspect arrested in the Monday shooting of right-wing populist Pim Fortuyn is an environmental activist, a Dutch prosecutor said Tuesday.

A search of the suspect's home in Harderwijk, Gelderland province, uncovered documents indicating the suspect was heavily involved in environmental issues. However, a motive for the assassination was not given.

The suspect fired five shots with a pistol, two of which struck Fortuyn in the back, two in the neck and one in the head, the prosecutor said. Fortuyn was shot as he left a radio station in Hilversum, and died before he could be taken to a local hospital.

The suspect, who was arrested Monday, was described as married and without a prior record with police. His age was given as 32. Earlier reports gave his age as 33.

This isn't so crazy, libertarianism is the greatest threat to the "environmentalist" movement.

Yes. It makes perfect sense.

But I would've expected a Green political hit in the US long before one in Europe.

Sounds like a pro to me.

And still they don't give us the guy's name.

What do you know about Harderwijk, knighthawk?

However, a motive for the assassination was not given.

The motive is obvious: The guy wanted Fortuyn to turn into an animal, and when he refused, he shot him, because humans aren't as good as Animals.

Everyone knows that.

Der Spiegel story says much the same things about the perp. Also says the Dutch election is not being postponed.

Very odd for an environmentalist to have learned to be a good shot.

Well, Fortuyn threatened Holland's image of tolerance. And if there's one thing the left can't tolerate, it's intolerance. Better to put him down than be seen as intolerant. < /sarcasm>< /irony>

It looks to me as if Europe is going berserk again. Just as it did in 1914 and 1939, and a dozen times before that. The crisis looming over them is extremely serious--nothing less than the prospect of Muslim outsiders taking over the continent as they outbreed the native Europeans and become the new majority. And the socialist politicians in charge are pretending that there's nothing to talk about, so ordinary people have no legitimate outlet to express themselves.

Are you implying Fortuyn was a libertarian? On what basis? Libertarians generally favor open immigration, and I gather Fortuyn's main shtick was closed borders.

Since environmentalism is a religion, does this mean that Fortuyn was killed by a religious fundamentalist?

Yeah, but the Netherlands were full up. Even a libertarian has to draw the line somewhere. I don't mean an overly-ideological extremist like the members of the Libertarian Party. I mean someone who wants freer speech, freer trade, lower barriers to the entry of new businesses, lower burdens on the productive members of society, and someone who wants to destroy the welfare state. That's a "libertarian."

And do those constitute positions taken by Fortuyn?

Even more odd for a skilled marksman to become an environmentalist. Five shots, five hits like that is thousands of times better ratio than any US police statistics.

It appears the door is open in Europe to Politics by Assassination -- look for more like it all over the continent.
