I Need Your Help
Myself | 4/29/02 | Me

Posted on 04/29/2002 8:26:57 AM PDT by michaelje

This week I need everyone’s help on two matters. NO MATTER WHERE YOU LIVE YOUR SUPPORT IS CRITICAL.

Our first order of business:

3,000 demonstrators, demanding an INCREASE in state taxes, are set to descend on the Massachusetts State House tomorrow (Tuesday April 30th).

Rest assured that our local media, including NECN, Boston Herald, WBZ, and the forerunning Boston Globe will use this protest to leverage their own support for takes hikes.

To date, legislators have received very few calls, faxes and emails urging them to cut spending rather than raise taxes. I am urging everyone, whether you live in Massachusetts or not, to help freedom loving patriots wage an email, fax, and phone campaign against these hikes.

In 2000, Massachusetts voters overwhelmingly approved a ballot initiative, sponsored by MA Libertarians, to roll back the tax rate to 5% from 5.95% over the course of 3 years.

As Boston Globe columnist Jeff Jacoby wrote today “Get out your handkerchiefs, ladies and gentlemen. The lawmakers you elected are about to spit in your face.”

Please contact the following Massachusetts State legislators and urge them to cut spending (which has doubled over the past 10 years) rather than raise taxes.

Tom Finneran, House Speaker
Telephone: (617) 722-2500

Tom Birmingham, Senate President & candidate for Governor
E-Mail: Tbirming@sen.state.ma.us
Telephone: (617) 722-1500
Fax: (617) 248-3840

& Your State Senator and Representative if you are a resident of Massachusetts.

The AP is reporting today that there is little opposition to these tax hikes. Every call, email and fax counts !

Secondly

The National Rifle Association, and Massachusetts based Gun Owners Action League (GOAL) have sponsored legislation (HR.1087) that seeks to positively reform Massachusetts firearms laws.

According to GOAL, during the first week in April, a tentative agreement to release a modified version of the House Chairman’s Bill, H.1087, was made. Out of the 43 sections of this bill, GOAL agreed with the language in 37 of them.

So far so good, right ?

During negotiations, GOAL continually asked that we release a bill with the language that everyone agrees on. For whatever reason the House Chairman has now decided not to do so, and has walked away from the negotiations.

Please contact the following Massachusetts State legislators and urge them to support HR.1087:

Tom Finneran, House Speaker
Telephone: (617) 722-2500

Tom Birmingham, Senate President & candidate for Governor
E-Mail: Tbirming@sen.state.ma.us
Telephone: (617) 722-1500
Fax: (617) 248-3840

The House Chairman of the Committee on Public Safety, Timothy Toomey
Telephone: (617) 722-2230
Email: Rep.TimothyToomey@hou.state.ma.us

Bimp! Apparently only the people are supposed to live within their budget, government doesn't have to.

FlyingA, My point is that this take minimum effort. A few phone calls, emails and faxes and tax hikes in the state of MA are a dead issue........

Im not asking anyone to show up at a rally, donate money, or take time out of your day. Simply put, just contact your State Senator and Reps. MA Freepres, if you dont know who they are, send me FR mail.

I just got back from a FReep in Maine, goto the Citizens for Limited Taxation web site send them an Email, Carla Howells campaign, I will send you an email address, this seems to require a telephone, fax, email counter attack.

Most of our commisars realize this is a rent a mob activity, what we have to do is use the tools that we have. We can put together a counter protest but it will take more time than we have to do right and would have to be timed for maximum partisipation.

We would also have to have the partisipation of other groups. That would take time, but it can be done, I think.

What is it with these folks? Is there something in the drinking water, or floating in the air. I hope it is not contagious! What is in it for them? I cannot believe people want to pay more taxes, or do they want other people to pay more taxes?
