Join The Free State Project

The Free State Project is a plan in which 20,000 or more liberty-oriented people will move to a single state of the U.S. to secure there a free society. We will accomplish this by first reforming state law, opting out of federal mandates, and finally negotiating directly with the federal government for appropriate political autonomy. We will be a community of freedom-loving individuals and families, and create a shining example of liberty for the rest of the nation and the world.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Free State Project is a new strategy for freedom.

Rather than continuing the same failed strategies aimed at bringing Washington, D.C. to the light, the Free State Project aims at liberty in a single state. What can be done in a single state? A great deal. We could repeal state taxes and wasteful state government programs. We could end the collaboration between state and federal law enforcement officials in enforcing unconstitutional federal laws. We could end asset forfeiture and abuses of eminent domain. We could privatize utilities and end inefficient regulations and monopolies. Then we could negotiate directly with the federal government for more autonomy. In other countries, provinces have obtained the right to opt out of national programs and receive a tax rebate instead. We could do the same.

The state where we will move will be decided by a vote of the full F.S.P. membership after research has been done on all the candidate states. The vote will be conducted according to the method of Cumulative Count, which more closely approximates the ideal of individual choice than simple majority rule.

Join the Free State Project and take part in a rapidly growing movement aimed at securing liberty in our lifetime.

We don't want your money, just your signature - and when the time comes, your willingness to carry through on your word of honor.

If you would like to participate in this exciting new venture, all you need to do is to read our Participation Guidelines and sign the Statement of Intent. There have been several threads about deserting California or being fed up with the small socialist duchy states back east and what to do or where to go. I heard Mr. Sorens make a righteous case for how just 20,000 of us could make an incredible difference by moving to a smallish state moderately on the right or definetely to the right and skewing the the agenda and elected officials to our beliefs and task them to fulfill our will as an electorate. Just such a small number would have kept the Senate Republican, or even elect a Liberterian.

Please consider investigating this web sight and examine the resources there. Perhaps you could find a state close to where you are now that would allow you to be in close contact with your family, rather than everybody taking off to Texas (I love y'all, but it's too damn hot).
P.S. I'm leaning toward Deleware. Good outlook on guns, taxes, and with a long coast for a small state.

It's a very interesting concept, but let's face it, how many of us can just pick up and leave? I have to stay in the desert because my husband is ill. And what about the job market? We have to work and earn a living. I love the idea though.

Back in the 60's, all the heads were going to move to New Hampshire or Vermont and take the state over. Turns out they didn't have to. They took over the country.

Sorry to here your husband is ill. I don't happen to be encumbered (at least now that the Fascist IRS and Brown Shirts at the CA State Franchise Board have decided to go after my EXxxxx for her delinquent taxes vs. me) and I'm contemplating moving over at least one state line. I'm of a mind that in a few states, all is lost.
California is over-run with illegals that get better health care for free than I can get paying $210/month, not to mention free tution to all public universities. Gov. Davis has saddled us with $50 billion in overall debt plus taxes just with the electrical mess. I'm polishing my traveling shoes.

Just a quick question. What if the state that you intend to "take over/invade" does not want you?

Best place to go is Michigan. I live there, and did some research on it. All four seasons - enough for growing food if necessary. Lowest rate of natural disasters of any state (inlcuding tornado's, flooding, hurricanes, snowstorms, etc). Fishing, hunting - plenty of land still available. Also - when EVERY analyst/historian is predicting the next World War will be over water, MI is in the middle of 75% of the world's supply of fresh water - definitely the place to be. We even have large natural gas deposits, once some drilling is done in the appropriate places.
