POPE JOHN PAUL II will wrap up his summit with American cardinals today on the priest sexual abuse scandals. That the pope has called for this meeting is a sure sign that he has recognized the dire straits in which the American Catholic Church leadership is, even if some members of that leadership do not.

When I see a section of the guidelines that states " CIVIL AUTHORITIES MUST BE NOTIFIED OF MOLESTATION CHARGES " then I will know something is being done

Law can go and take Egan with him. Nothing is going to change. They don't have any intention of changing. This is all Public Relations.

Heard two priests on the radio today. They saw nothing wrong with having homosexual priests and nothing wrong when a priest engages in sexual relations with a woman. With this attitude I don't see any hope at all. I wonder what the Pope would have said if he heard these two men.

I fear that the Lavender Mafia is so firmly entrenched in the Church that we cannot expect to see meaningful change in the near future. This week's meetings were just so much window-dressing.

Sadly true. I did read that Bevillaqua has been adamant about removing ALL homosexual priests and homosexual men from the seminaries too. No doubt there are areas that have adhered to the teachings of the Church. The northeast is woefully succumbing to the homosexuals.

Now that the bill is coming due and the church is going to be hit with endless law suits, they are going to have to change the way they have dealt with these responsibilities. They knew twenty years ago that they had this problem. When dealing with damages to children there is a much longer period of time concerning statutes of limitations. They will be hit and hit hard financially, and I recall just a few years ago the church was alarmed and worried about a decline in revenue.
