As you say, there's no way that Browne will ever get more than 2 or 3 percent of the vote. And for good reason.

Is George Bush perfect? No. Is he as similar to Al Gore as this article pretends? No. I'll take the tax cut, the ban on abortion funding abroad, the movement toward a missile defense, and the resolute action in Afghanistan (if not yet in the Middle East). If Al Gore had stolen the election, things would be very much worse than they are now.

Plus, after watching the last campaign, I have problems thinking that the Libertarian Party is truly conservative on many issues. The impression I had was all talk and no action, and great emphasis on me, me, me.

Browne and most libertarians have a simple problem of wanting all or nothing, their way or the highway. Until they start playing the game by fighting for the hearts and minds of the people, and realize that the change they want will take years, they will remain a marginalized party.

He opposed the Kyoto agreement on global warming, while Al Gore supported it. But since the Senate had already rejected the treaty, it doesn't matter what the president thinks about it.

Simply put, Browne is wrong on this. The treaty has never been submitted to the Senate.

The Senate, on its own, passed a "sense of the Senate" resolution rejecting Kyoto by 95 - 0, or some such. But the treaty is still out there. Algore eventually would have submitted it for ratification.

My hat is off to Bush for having the intestinal fortitude to reject the whole idea.

The LP bitches and moans that George Bush hasn't done anything, and then it proceeds to run LP candidates for Senate in various states, ensuring that Democrats get elected, who fight George Bush at every turn. Of course Bush cannot do everything with a hostile Senate. And yes, there are a few RINOs that don't make it easy either.

If Harry Browne were President, but Congress was the same as it is now, would things be any different?

Unfortunately, there just doesn't seem to be much popular demand for smaller government these days. It's going to take a massive change in the way Americans think about government before they demand leaders who are seriously committed to getting Leviathan back on its leash.

Harry is a two-time loser. Didn't exactly fire-up the masses on either occasion. He believes Ho Chi Minh was a "democrat" (small 'd')and unfortunately, has been able to inculcate this false belief in a few Libertarians. He immediately jumped on America in the post-9-11 environ.

The LP was started in Colorado 31 years ago and apparently reached it's zenith with the successful takeover of the Leadville City Council. First order of business? "Hey DUDE! Roll one up and let's go climb a mountain!"

The most famous libertarian is Ron Paul, and he has been a Republican for some time now. I get his cookbook. I am a $upporter of his. But Harry Browne? LP needs to put him out to pasture. Why wait for the third strike?

They have some good ideas. Pro-Second Amendment, anti-tax, favor smaller gov. etc. But their ability to convince others is sorely lacking. Perhaps the liberty Caucus inside the Republican Party is the way to go? You know, take over the Republican P. from within? Hell, it worked for the Communists. I mean the look what they have done to the once proud Democrat Party!

If you don't ask for what you want – if you don't demand what you want as the price of your support – you shouldn't be surprised that you never get what you really want.

But principles don't matter. Remember? All that matters is getting a Republican in the White House. Who cares if he acts as bad or worse than Gore? We just want to win. Win at any cost.

Or at least that was the GOP mantra during the election.

During the Presidential campaign, most Libertarians on FR told us that Harry Browne was a great guy, running an excellent campaign, and was a walking platform for what Libertarianism meant.

After the campaign, Harry came out and screamed bloody murder attacking the U.S. campaign in Afghanistan, not to mention Harry reminded everyone of his pro-choice and open borders views. Libertarians on FR immediately told us that Harry Browne ran a lousy campaign for President, did NOT represent the views of "most Libertarians" (and that the LP "leaders" had disavowed Harry's columns)-- not to mention grassroot Libertarians had abandoned him for Ron Paul and Barry Hess.

Now, Harry attacks Bush again for not being conservative enough. Most Libertarians on FR tell us that Harry Browne is a great guy and is a walking platform for what Libertarianism means. And, of course, he'd make a great president.

I sure wish you guys would be consistant here.
