(D) Wellstone in trouble in Minn Senate Race
St. Paul Pioneer Press ^

WASHINGTON — Sen. Paul Wellstone's campaign is struggling, getting support from just 42 percent of Minnesota voters, according to two recent partisan polls.

On Monday, national Democrats released a poll showing Wellstone, D-Minn., narrowly leading Republican challenger Norm Coleman by 42 percent to 40 percent.

Earlier this month, national Republicans released their own poll of Minnesota voters showing Coleman ahead, 49 percent to 42 percent.

The Wellstone campaign cites a history of close races, saying this is business as usual.

But two political analysts think the results spell trouble for the senator. Here's the full article

Coleman's site is at http://www.colemanforsenate.com/

Can someone go there -- then come back and tell me WHAT this guy stands for -- besides ELECTION to the Senate?

I smell a RINO -- again!

But he'd be BETTER than Wellstone, right?

Wrong!

At least we KNOW that Wellstone will trash the Constitution in plain sight.

This guy could do HIS damage out of sight -- behind the cloak of Republicanism.

Anybody ELSE getting sick of that crap?

I feel some optimism because when Ventura won,the Republican was second and the demonrat was third.

The other thing going for the GOP this time is that Norm Coleman, like Paul Wellstone, is Jewish, thus neutralizing a key advantage that Wellstone has always had with in-state voters and out-of-state contributors.

I agree as well - also toss into the mix that Welfare refused Colemans request to fundraise only in Minnesota.

I want Welfare gone - I think he is a disgrace to Minnesota - but then we also have Dayton - it must be something in the water that has us elect such imbeciles!

Boschwitz is Jewish, too. Anybody is better than Wellstone, but I wonder whether Coleman will be able to pick up many swing voters. His personality is pretty smarmy and he has flipped on a number of hot-button issues.

No, you're wrong. As long as he votes to elect a Republican leadership in the Senate, things like ANWR drilling and judicial appointments that would pass in the full Senate can't be held from a vote by Tommy Daschle. You've gotta look at the big picture.

No. I am sick of Daschle. Having a RINO is better than Wellstone. He can be balanced by Miller and others to get something done.

"Don't forget..........this is Minnesota."

I am originally "from" Minnesota -- I was born in Minneapolis. It is a good state to be "from," and considering their climate and their politics, the farther FROM it, the better!

Judge Pickering failed in the Senate committee there was not one more Republican in the Senate. Result: one less pro-life judge on the Federal Court of Appeals.

Norm Coleman is pro-life (at least according to the MN FReeps I talked to). Would you like to have Socialist over Coleman?

I can't believe I'm actually hearing people pull for Wellstone over Coleman on what is suppose to be a "conservative news forum."

Everytime a Democrat stays in power is time they use to "mainstream" there liberal ideas. Your brand of politics is to drive conservative ideas off a cliff.

Very true. Nice to see that the denizens of the Land o' Lakes haven't fully shed the Socialism of Grandpa Sven and Grandma Inga.

Coleman is a decent guy, better than Boschowitz. Grams was a total fluke.

Funny, I never thought Minnesota had a large Jewish population. It surely can't be as significant as that of New York or Florida.
