As Israelis citizens, Arabs have more rights, privileges and opportunities than the inhabitants of any Arab state in the Middle East. At the same time, the so-called Palestinian refugees of the West Bank are barred even from becoming citizens in 21 of the 22 Arab nations. That's why they are "refugees."

Great article. We, and the thousands who read David's article know the truth...then there's the international/national media. Arafat's argument (and Islam) falls flat under close inspection. Why isn't the civilized world being told the truth?

This should end any and all conspiracy nuts' accusations about "Jews controlling the media." Democrats and international leftists can not claim to be for human rights, womens' rights, freedom, fair elections, children, education or Jews. They are exposed, naked in the light...and ugly.

BUMP for a great piece!

I'll have to send this to my dad who emailed me for the Whitehouse address to protest Bush's inconsistency on Israel's doing for itself what we are doing on our own behalf.

As I told him:
Bush is being completely inconsistent. Arafat and all the rest of the Islamic terrorists are just different heads of the same hydra. It's true that Arafat is about as Muslim as the moon is green cheese, but he manipulates the entire situation by the Islamic and anti-Jew and anti-Israel aspects to push his own agenda. There was already too much accomodation by previous presidents, especially the Bent One, of Arafat. As far as Arab "leaders", there are no democratically-elected "leaders". They all hate Israel and have been the major players manipulating the "Palestinians" since the very beginning as another means to attack Israel. It's just war by another means.

Israel has already suffered far more from Arafat and others than the U.S. did on 9/11. If we have a right as a nation to protect ourselves by going after terrorists and states that support them, then Israel has the same right and we have no right to interfere. If Bush wants to say "It's inconvenient for us for you guys in Israel to take out Arafat and the rest of the terrorists because we've already been conferring legitimacy upon them and to stand by and say nothing against you makes us look inconsistent", that's okay, but he shouldn't be acting as though what Israel is doing is somehow inconsistent with his initial statement on fighting terrorism.

I don't see why anyone should be surprised that there could be a religion that promotes a worldview that states that all unbelievers are to be either converted or conquered or that specifically targets another religious group for especial brutality. I mean, that's exactly what Hitler was doing. And before and during WWII the Arab/Muslims were in full lock step with the Nazis. Anyone who says that Hitler/Naziism was politics not religion doesn't understand either politics OR religion.

the boundary between Israel and Syria is still referred to as the "green line," symbolizing the difference between the Israeli side, which under the care of the Jews has become fertile ground, and the Arabs' side, which is still a desert. On their sliver of land the Jews also built the only industrial and democratic nation in the entire Middle East.

I lived in Israel when I turned 18 years old. I remember going to that border and being amazed at the stark contrast. I have never forgotten it.

I am in agreement with most of the opinions on this post, but I have to draw a line here. Jonathan Pollard is a despicable traitor. He spied against what supposedly was his homeland...the USA. I question the patriotism of ANYONE who defends him or other Jewish-Americans like him who have committed treasonous acts. TRAITORS should always receive the DEATH PENALTY.

"The documentary depicted this sacriligious practice as quaint and ideosyncratic of Arab culture. They didn't dare call it what it is - profane desecration."

I missed that program but do not doubt your description of this practice. I didn't know about it - except about the Dome of the Rock.

Here's a tidbit to piggyback on your post. I received it via email and thought it was quite interesting...

Crash Course on the Arab Israeli Conflict Here are overlooked facts in the current Middle East situation. These were compiled by a Christian university professor.

HERE'S THE BRIEF FACTS ON THE ISRAELI CONFLICT TODAY....
1. Nationhood and Jerusalem. Israel became a nation in 1312 B.C.E., two thousand years before the rise of Islam.
2. Arab refugees in Israel began identifying themselves as part of a Palestinian people in 1967, two decades after the establishment of the modern State of Israel.
3. Since the Jewish conquest in 1272 B.C.E., the Jews have had dominion over the land for one thousand years with a continuous presence in the land for the past 3,300 years.
4. The only Arab dominion since the conquest in 635 C.E. lasted no more than 22 years.
5. For over 3,300 years, Jerusalem has been the Jewish capital. Jerusalem has never been the capital of any Arab or Muslim entity. Even when the Jordanians occupied Jerusalem, they never sought to make it their capital, and Arab leaders did not come to visit.
6. Jerusalem is mentioned over 700 times in Tanach, the Jewish Holy Scriptures. Jerusalem is not mentioned once in the Koran.
7. King David founded the city of Jerusalem. Mohammed never came to Jerusalem.
8. Jews pray facing Jerusalem. Muslims pray with their backs toward Jerusalem.
9. Arab and Jewish Refugees: In 1948 the Arab refugees were encouraged to leave Israel by Arab leaders promising to purge the land of Jews.
Sixty-eight percent left without ever seeing an Israeli soldier.
10. The Jewish refugees were forced to flee from Arab lands due to Arab brutality, persecution and pogroms.
11. The number of Arab refugees who left Israel in 1948 is estimated to be around 630,000. The number of Jewish refugees from Arab lands is estimated to be the same.
12. Arab refugees were INTENTIONALLY not absorbed or integrated into the Arab lands to which they fled, despite the vast Arab territory. Out of the 100,000,000 refugees since World War II, theirs is the only refugee group in the world that has never been absorbed or integrated into their own peoples' lands. Jewish refugees were completely absorbed into Israel, a country no larger than the state of New Jersey.
13. The Arab - Israeli Conflict: The Arabs are represented by eight separate nations, not including the Palestinians. There is only one Jewish nation.
The Arab nations initiated all five wars and lost. Israel defended itself each time and won.
14. The P.L.O.'s Charter still calls for the destruction of the State of Israel. Israel has given the Palestinians most of the West Bank land, autonomy under the Palestinian Authority, and has supplied them.
15. Under Jordanian rule, Jewish holy sites were desecrated and the Jews were denied access to places of worship. Under Israeli rule, all Muslim and Christian sites have been preserved and made accessible to people of all faiths.
16. The U.N. Record on Israel and the Arabs: of the 175 Security Council resolutions passed before 1990, 97 were directed against Israel.
17. Of the 690 General Assembly resolutions voted on before 1990, 429 were directed against Israel.
18. The U.N was silent while 58 Jerusalem Synagogues were destroyed by the Jordanians.
19. The U.N. was silent while the Jordanians systematically desecrated the ancient Jewish cemetery on the Mount of Olives.
20. The U.N. was silent while the Jordanians enforced an apartheid-like policy of preventing Jews from visiting the Temple Mount and the Western Wall.

The seed of the Palestinians' genocidal mania is rooted in Islam and began its metastasis more than 100 years ago when the first Zionist settlements signaled that an oppressed people, huddled on the fringes of the Ottoman Empire, was about to assert itself. Jews, in fact, had been living continuously in the region for 3,000 years but only as a stateless minority, easily and therefore frequently abused. The struggle in the Middle East is not now and has never been about land. Israel occupies a miniscule 1% of the Arab Middle East and less than 10% of the entire Palestine Mandate, which was not even a political entity - let alone a nation, when the Jews' rights were granted. It was just a "mandate" carved by the British out of the Turkish empire after the First World War, and then allotted 90% to the Palestinian Arabs and 10% to the Jews.

The Middle East War is not about land and not about injustice. It is a religious war - a jihad -- against the Jews.

Thanks for the ping, Lysander. Interesting that just before I saw your ping, I saved this article for later reading and for my homeschooled kids to also read after I heard about it from Townhall's daily e-mail.

the so-called Palestinian refugees of the West Bank are barred even from becoming citizens in 21 of the 22 Arab nations. That's why they are "refugees." Because the Arabs want them to be miserable and destitute, and available as cannon fodder for their suicide wars against Israel. In contrast, the 600,000 Jewish refugees who fled or were expelled from Arab countries after the 1948 war have been fully resettled in Israel where they are productive citizens who desperately want peace.

Click the map for more history of the conflict.

In 1945 there were more than 870,000 Jews living in the various Arab states. Many of their communities dated back 2,500 years. Throughout 1947 and 1948 these Jews were persecuted. Their property and belongings were confiscated. There were anti-Jewish riots in Aden, Egypt, Lybia, Syria, and Iraq. In Iraq, Zionism was made a capital crime. Aproximately 600,000 Jews sought refuge in the State of Israel.(1) They arrived destitute, but they were absorbed into the society and became an integral part of the state. In effect, then, a vertible exchange of populations took place between Arab and Jewish refugees. Thus the Jewish refugees became full Israeli citizens while the Arab refugees.

Approximately 720,000 Arabs, encouraged by their leaders to leave, fled from what is now Israel between April and December, 1948.(1) The Arab leaders promised them that they would soon be able to return following Israel's destruction. In some cases the Jews, including Israel's first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, urged the Arabs to remain, promising that they would not be harmed.(2) Those who remained became full and equal citizens of Israel, while those who chose to leave went to neighboring Arab states. Instead of welcoming their Arab brothers, and integrating them into the mainstream of their societies, the Arab states kept them in squalid refugee camps and used these Palestinians refugees as political pawns in their fight against Israel.

Which people are from a great culture and which are from a barbaric, evil one?
