the patron saint of conjurers, magicians and wizards.

Forbidden in the Bible, and an abomination before God.

The saint in question founded a number of schools for the education and vocational training of abandoned or illegitimate street children, among whom were many circus folk.

He was known for his ability to integrate school lessons with diversions such as juggling and tricks of the "oh-there's-a-quarter-behind-your-ear" variety.

He would be horrified to learn that this Mass-mocking priest was trying to link his name to evil acts like necromancy, soothsaying, conjuring, etc.

Of course, individuals like Mantelli have a long history of making up stories about papal audiences and encounters.

Not if they're of the David Copperfield variety. Get a life.

Don Bosco was not a sorceror, he did stage magic; y'know card tricks and pulling bunnies out of hat.

The Pope told me this would be a way of spreading peace and wonder in the world,” Mantelli said.

=========

I don't know about "peace" part but they got that "wonder" nailed down right! Wonder, as in "What the...?"
