Any Catholic Freepers read "The Wanderer"? I want insider Pope news.

Are there any Catholic Freepers who read the Wanderer?

I used to get that weekly several years ago, and I consider it to be one of the best, if not THE best source of news on the Vatican.

Now that we've got the 'Net, I'm not sure I would need to read the Wanderer, but I want to keep up to date on the Vatican, especially now.

Is there a comparable source for Catholic/Vatican news on the internet?

The Wanderer is easily the Catholic news source of record, bar none. There is a special going on now for a subscriber to give a friend a 6 month subscription for a $25 donation. Catholic bishops, the Chancery bureaucrats, and the Catholic left (like Call to Action) hate The Wanderer with a passion because it constantly reports on their abuses and perversions. They often refer to it as "that right wing rag" or other such drivel. Their reporting is fearless. Buy it just to annoy the Catholic left.

For Catholic news including the Vatican try

http://www.ewtn.com/vnews/headlines.asp

The Wanderer is still the best for news of Church problems in America. They were years ahead in pointing toward problems in what they refer to as the Am-Church. Your generally won't find it is parishes because pointing out Church problems is considered 'uncharitable'. However, those that don't like the Wanderer must be pleased with the secular newspapers and the lawyers pointing out Church problems.

Two sources I find informative are:

TCRNews joins other Catholics loyal to the Holy Father and Church in opposing the neo-modernist revolution and its bitter manifestations, just as it opposes the others errors that affect and infect the modern world-- atheism, Communism, Socialism (old forms or new) the abortion epidemic, euthanasia, secular sex education, Sodomy, radical Feminism, syncretism, liturgical trendiness and kitsch, Integrist errors and all schismatic theology, etc.

and

Diocese Reports a kind of Drudge link site devoted to links with Catholic interests.

Thank you for posting these two sources. I had bumped into TCR before, but never the Diocese Report.

People might be interested in Zenit (which somebody else has already mentioned in this discussion). Zenit is the official Vatican e-mail bulletin, and while it generally has a very positive take on things, it is fairly honest.

It's available in several languages. I get it in Spanish, and it enables me to keep on on things in Spain and Latin America, as well as in the US. It's very useful in English, too, and gives you the US/British news. It's nothing fancy - just an e-mail with no graphics, no fancy fonts, and "just the facts." www.zenit.org to subscribe

For a slightly more Drudge-style approach to Catholic News, you might try the Spirit Daily.

It has an apocalyptic slant and can be a little sensationalist sometimes, but also has some good links to just about every religious site on the web.

If one weren't too careful, they'd think that this IS the Drudge site.

Talk about "imitation is the best form of flattery"!!! - Clever, though.

This seems to be the place to ask you Catholics a question I've had for a couple of weeks.

I was watching TLC, some show on mummification, and they said that each pope has been mummified after his death, and that the part of JP2 that was removed in surgury after the assasination attemp has already been mummified.

Is this for real? And if so why, and why just the pope and not all Catholics? Do they claim to have Peter's mummified body, or what is the oldest pope's mummy they have? I'm not trying to start any trouble, I just want a better understanding of this one thing.

Can't really provide good answers, but I am not familiar with Popes being mummified. St. Peter is in the tombs of the Vatican, but I do not believe his remains are mummified. Most of the Popes reside in the crypt under St. Peter's. I don't know of any Popes for sure that were mummified, so obviously I can't tell you an earliest. There was talk when John XXIII was exhumed recently that his body was sort of mummified after it was exhumed to preserve it. Other then that I'm not to helpful here.

John XXIII's body was found to be incorrupt, like the bodies of many other saints.

I overstated the case. The Church has only declared officially that the “Body of Blessed John XXIII is Remarkably Well Preserved.” The Church has not said that his body is incorrupt.
