That's ok...I know I would need help in the line of succession to the US Presidency after about the 4th person.

I am sorry to see this, but it was to be expected. I'd say she lived a grand old life. My condolences go to Queen Elizabeth, her family and England.

The 19th century ended after december 31, 1900....same with the 20th century, though the media basicly rewrote this with their 'millenium' stuff. it is worth noting on this that there is no year 'zero'...after 1 bc, you have 1 ad.

I remember reading that the Queen Mother-- she was the Queen at the time-- was asked to leave London during the blitz and she refused. She wanted to stay in London as bombs were falling around Buckingham Palace. God Bless her!

All good things come to an end. I have nothing really to say about the Queen, since she didn't rule my country. She did however act as a figurehead, and example for many Britons. I'm sure wherever she has gone to is better than Buckingham Palace.

God Bless the Queen Mum. My father used to tell me stories about her and King George VI walking the streets of bombed out London during WWII and how her family refused to leave Britain during the Nazi bombing.

Deepest sympathies to our friends in England, a country I love nearly as much as my own. History's giants are leaving us, and I fear for the future of the civilized world.

That's what irritates me the most. The heroic generation is passing away. Soon it is going to be the wastrels of the 1960's who will represent the "Senior Circuit". Including the likes of Bill Clinton.

Regards, Ivan

I believe the statement the late Queen gave when asked about leaving England during the war was:

"My children will not leave without me, I will not leave without my husband, and my husband will not leave his people."

I fail to understand all the mourning
The institution of royalty is, and has been the enemy of freedom.
While I'm not "happy" about her death, I'll shed no tears either.

Name just one thing these royals did to stop england from turning into a socialist cesspool?

BTW Please spare me the "brave lady of WWII stuff" .
That was over 50 years ago.
There are lots of "Brave WWII" Vets around and they die everyday without fanfare

The thought of her brave words when Buckingham Palace was bombed during WWII - that now she could face the people of the East End whose homes had already been bombed - always brought tears to my eyes, and certainly do today.

What a fine example of bravery, isn't it? Here are her exact words:

I'm glad we've been bombed. It makes me feel I can look the East End in the face.

May Queen Mother Elizabeth rest in peace, and may her memory ever shine as a beacon of freedom and courage.
