"For God and the King!": the Vendée, March 1793
Please remember: PIERRE BOTEREAUX,LOIRE INF. 13/NIVO/02 (my relative, captured and died via guillotine)
I am not sure that was their intent inasmuch as Lou believed in the Revolution!
What is rather interesting is that the Vondee suffered two holocausts in two centuries. This one at the time of the Revolution was certainly devastating, but they also suffered horribly during the Religious Wars. Most of the Protestants were murdered or driven out. No doubt they had more than their fair share of problems during the Hundred Years War, and most likely earlier.
When Merlin first planted grapes over in Beaujolais (what it's called these days), circa 600 AD, the Vondee had to be repopulated completely!
