I just checked my mail about five minutes ago. I had a postcard from an Israeli friend wishing me a happy Easter and saying he hoped for a quiet Passover. Obviously sent before all this happened. Very sad. I wonder when the Israeli government is going to get it together and actually do something.

He is not weak in the face of terrorism. He is weak in the face of American pressure.

Then he is weak. When your citizens are being killed in cold blood, you don't cower behind the cover that you can't act because the world community won't let you. How about first you protect your citizens and then worry what the world will say?

"Why don't YOU forget about Israel?"

As if they would let us! The minute Congress passed a complete cut-off of aid to Israel, and announced that the settlers are on their own from now on, the personal "foibles" and scandals of 3/4 of that august body would be public in a matter of hours.

Note to Mr. Bush: "I read your lips and so did a lot of others. You said 'If you harbor a terrorist, you are a terrorist, and we are coming after you". Arafat is a terrorist and he harbors terrorists. When are you going after him?"

This is not Bush's job. It is up to Israel to stop terrorist attacks in Israel. Israel has the capability, if Sharon lets them.

Some think Bush, not the Palestinians, is the real problem. A compilation of comments from today:

Human vs. sub-human. Bush seems to be unable to see the difference. . .the Zinni trip was a murderous act of sabotage. . .Bush will say he is "distressed" at this latest turn of events. . .At Powell's urging, he will blame Israelis for being killed.. . .It seems Bush and company change sides when ever the wind changes. . .His (Bush's) language and his actions are so far apart I'm reminded of Arafat...Bush thinks oil is more important than Israeli blood. . .Thank you, George W. Bush, for coddling these blood thirsty butchers. A real principled man, that Dubya. . . .Bush is in the pocket of Arab campaign donors.

Did I predict the GOP would be kicked in the teeth or what?

Why don't you go to Israel and volunteer to fight in the IDF -- instead of doing it from the comfort of your living room?

Why don't you go blow yourself up in a Synagogue?

Gee lots of unlinked comments. How honest.

I saw lots of anti-Bush comments today. But they were about Bush signing CPR. Some VERY angry Conservatives.

It's not Conservative Jews Bush has to worry about::

I know you're not advocating we over react. I do think there's potential for problems. I think that time will tell.

DentsRun:We elected Bush to do what's best for America.

Lazarus Long: That's right, and what's best for America is to stand strong behind the principles of justice and democracy.

You can't just argue that Israel is a democracy and therefore the U.S. is obligated to support her policy needs at every turn. We have our own needs, such as, for instance making sure we don't lose 3000 more Americans in another hijacking attack. That's what Bush is trying to do and he deserves our support on that, not condemnation that he's not doing enough for some other country. If you want to argue that his actions are honorable but misguided, that's a fair approach. But you can't call him a traitor, as some people here have, for trying to defend America first.

Btw, signing the unconstitutional CFR into law isn't what's "best for America," yet sign it is precisely what he did. His #1 concern, just like most other politicians, is re-election.

I'm also troubled by the first amendent problems with campaign finance reform. As for Bush's being a politican, you're of course exactly right, but when has it ever been otherwise?

Gee lots of unlinked comments. How honest.

Don't play coy, you read these threads, you know what is said. I don't want to embarrass those who, in essence, call an entire group of people untermenschen and who flat out misstate what the President is doing. But go to this thread, you'll see. I have expressed my distaste for CFR, The education bill and the steel tariffs. Legitimate domestic political debate. This is, one, a foreign problem and, two, the attacks are outright lies. Bush does not think oil is more important than Israeli blood, Bush does not refuse to let Israel defend itself, Bush is not like Arafat, Bush is not in the pocket of Arab campaign donors.

There are liberals on FR you know, they do try to incite people against the GOP.

"I think the sucide bombings are directed at Israeli morale, not world opinion."

It is always dangerous to speculate on the motivation of others. One possible goal is to secure a UN peace keeping force that would, of course, be dominated by his third world allies. The next step of course, would be an UN imposed peace giving him his demands. A second goal might be to goad Israel into a massive response that would lead to world wide sympathy for his cause. Then again, you could be right.

Legitimate domestic political debate...

Keep digging. Foreign policy is not a legitimate area for debate? Or does it bother you when Conservatives support Israel. Not fake support, real support. You mean it's okay to disagree with Bush on CFR...but not Israel? Lame....

You mean he's one of those unhappy creatures that don't show up in a mirror? Could we call a freep to cover the Antiwar offices in garlic so he'll stay in there forever? And by all means, if an antiwar staffer could rub his keyboard with the stuff it would probably be good too.
