SEVEN dollars per package of cigarettes? Why not $20 or $50 a pack? Since the price of cigarettes creeps up every other month, why doesn't the government put a $100 tax on each pack?
Smoking is stupid and disgusting. I would never take a puff from those vile things, but raising prices is not the answer. I don't believe it will make people quit; it will just make more people lose a lot of money or become broke from spending so much on their habit. Making prices higher will not end the addiction.

Of course it should.
Nico Nazis make me sicker than smokers.
What say we ask them?
The silly little smoking gnats would get slapped down really fast!
Why?
Won't happen. The government is making too much money off it.
Hillary would be toast.
Overnight creation of a new criminal class of millions of normally law-biding citizens.
Dramatic expansion of federal power to arrest, imprison, harass, and kill tobacco users. Never forget what the T in BATF stands for.
Bankruptcy of countless tobacco farms causing economic disruption for several agricultural areas of the country.
Much higher taxes to offset cost of persecution of tobacco smokers, and the loss of tax revenue from tobacco sales.
Am I missing any other great benefits?
BTW, I don't even smoke. Amazingly I came to this decision completely on my own, without a gun pointed at me. Imagine that!
In a word, yes.
It would be a lot more honest than taxing it.
Kill the cash cow and see where it goes from there.
It all began when the government said, "I will take care of you..."
Never mind.
Tax fatty foods.
Tax dangerous activities
Tax the spread of aids (30k per partner infected?)
Tax all recreation.
Reminds me of the old song... "In the year 2525"
Smoking is a drag on our society. Its worse than most drugs because the after affects of years of use require long and expensive medical care much of which is paid by the tax payer. I mean our kids can get ahold of cigarettes very easily. Cigarettes should be illegal and anyone who thinks differently is a "smoke-head" who smokes cigarettes on a regular basis.
Do you mean like drugs are illegal?
Why do the nations busy bodies continue to insert their likes, dislikes, beliefs, and disbeliefs into the lives of their fellow citizens? Is it the notion that if they write enough laws man will improve or are they just unable to face the reality that not everybody wants to be like them?
