Notice Bush couldn't make Vincent Fox toe the line on the UN Taxation issue. Even with his efforts to give Amnesty to 300,000 illegal aliens.

Bush made it clear that U.S. aid would no longer be poured down the U.N. rat-hole as it has been in the past. - Thank God for small favors.

U.N. conferences are not accustomed to hearing this kind of talk from a U.S. president. Bill Clinton told the Millennium Summit in 2000 that the time had come for national sovereignty to take a back seat to U.N. activism. Bush invoked U.S. sovereignty by defining the conditions upon which U.S. aid will be granted. And he did it with a smile, and without confrontation.

What, no 73 threads bashing Bush for SELLING US OUT AGAIN with this issue, too??

Somehow, I knew this thread would never go to 600 posts with 50 Idiots Bashing Bush repeatedly, and calling him a traitor and a liar, and worse than a Demonrat...

Personally, I think that it is the BUSH BASHERS who are traitors, and liars, and worse than DemonRATS!!!

Come on out Bashers and tell us again 50 times over how Bush lost your vote this time, because a black cat crossed your path, or because Duke lost or some other IDIOTIC reason.

I only wish that I could see 50 threads Bashing the Bush Bashers now.

Had Al Gore been elected president, the outcome would have likely been different.

GREAT post. Cut the bureaucratic elites out of the picture, give aid directly to the poor. Bush does not not please me 100 % of the time, but he's damn sure better than Algore Hammer.

I do not expect Vicente Fox to toe the line on everything we do. He is doing what HIS people want, which sometimes doesn't coincide with what we want. I also do not expect that we will agree in every instance with Tony Blair, or Vladimir Putin, or anyone else.

In fact, I do not expect to agree with President Bush on every issue, nor for that matter, my own husband.

John! Haven't you been paying attention lately? The verdict is in. G.W. is not a conservative! < /sarcasm>

I'm proud of Dubya for this. Now let's make sure that the U.N. tax plan stays blocked.

The bottom line is that we're promising to pay MORE foreign aid and we're still in the U.N.

Do you skip entire paragraphs that don't adhere to your Bashing agenda??

Let me guess, Bush lost your vote this time, because he didn't singlehandedly remove us from the U.N. at this conference, right??? Yawn.

When he spoke to the delegates on Friday, however, Bush made it clear that U.S. aid would no longer be poured down the U.N. rat-hole as it has been in the past. U.S. aid will be placed into a special "Millennium" account, not simply handed over to the U.N. The U.S., not the U.N., will establish the criteria that must be met by developing nations before receiving U.S. aid.

The Bush administration is clearly changing gears with its U.S. aid. U.S. aid will now be aimed at helping nations build the infrastructure to create wealth, rather than on programs that simply feed global poverty – and enrich those who administer the programs.

"Bush told the delegates that no longer can poverty relief be measured simply by the amount donor nations give. The real measure of poverty relief must be based on the achievements produced by the aid."

Well, DUH!!!! And how many presidents did it take till we found one who reached this obvious astounding conclusion?

I do give him credit for that, and for refusing a global tax administered by the UN.

But we ARE paying a form of a global tax anyway--an increase of $5 Billion by 2005.

No matter how you look at it, it's one hell of a tax for Americans to have to pay. So don't tell me I won't be paying a global tax. The UN just won't get to distribute it.
