The bottom line is that we're promising to pay MORE foreign aid and we're still in the U.N.

Do you skip entire paragraphs that don't adhere to your Bashing agenda??

Let me guess, Bush lost your vote this time, because he didn't singlehandedly remove us from the U.N. at this conference, right??? Yawn.

When he spoke to the delegates on Friday, however, Bush made it clear that U.S. aid would no longer be poured down the U.N. rat-hole as it has been in the past. U.S. aid will be placed into a special "Millennium" account, not simply handed over to the U.N. The U.S., not the U.N., will establish the criteria that must be met by developing nations before receiving U.S. aid.

The Bush administration is clearly changing gears with its U.S. aid. U.S. aid will now be aimed at helping nations build the infrastructure to create wealth, rather than on programs that simply feed global poverty – and enrich those who administer the programs.

Are the people who were born in poor countries less human than you? Do they deserve to starve, die, and suffer disease, just because of where they happened to be born?

Certainly, we shouldn't just give handouts indefinitely, but it is only humane to help them help themselves. Bush is advocating a policy of teaching them how to fish and demanding results from the money given, not just throwing them fish, and that is a huge improvement over the previous leadership we had, and it is the right thing to do.
