Sources: Swift Dropping Out Of Governor's Race
Cites Family Reasons For Leaving GOP Field To Romney
BOSTON -- Sources tell NewsCenter 5 that Acting Gov. Jane Swift has decided to drop out of the race for the GOP gubernatorial nomination this fall.
Swift, a mother of three, including twin girls who were born last June, cited family reasons for her decision not to run.
Aides said she is expected to make a formal announcement later Tuesday.
Swift's decision comes on the heels of a news that Olympic chief Mitt Romney plans to formally announce his candidacy for the corner office. He returned to his hometown of Belmont, Mass., this weekend after three years organizing the 2002 Olympic Winter games in Salt Lake city.

This is great news to me. I was impressed with him and how he saved the Winter Olympics. He has a nice manner, elegant.
I'm not surprised nor upset by his more liberal views, he wouldn't have a prayer otherwise in Mass.
We have to build the party from the bottom up. If he is successful as Governor, he can try once again against old Kennedy. One of these days we WILL be rid of him from the Senate. (God willing!)

I'm glad someone else besides me is thinking of Mr. Amirault.
Swifty's decision to keep Amriault in jail a couple of weeks ago was about the most chickens*** thing I've ever seen, and that's saying something.
Does she have the ability to revisit this now? Or can she do an 11th-hour pardon next January in the spirit of Slick Willie (except in her case she'd be doing the right thing)?

You hit the nail on the head. There are only two reasons to support Mitt Romney, who is a squish Republican, as Governor of Massachusetts. 1) Lower taxes, and 2) appointing the successor to Ted Kennedy when he goes to that Irish pub in the sky. The first reason is good for Massachusetts. The second reason is good for the whole nation. Being part Irish, I'll drink to that.

Personally, I'd rather see Mitt or someone else retire Senator Drunkard (aka the Hero of Chappaquiddick) in 2006.

Good riddance, to bad rubbish. She knew Mit was going to CLOBBER her if he ran.
She is citing "family" as her reason for quitting the race. What a load of trype.
She was a terrible leader without ANY real support from the republicans OR the people of the state. She has fired everyone who had any stones and replaced them with rubber stamp yes boys (note I did not say MEN, just look at who she chose as her running mate and you will get the picture).
Hopefully, Mit Romney can do for the state what he did for the Olympics = bring it in on budget and in the black. I also seriously doubt he will be picking a girley boy for his Lt. govenor.

Give the woman credit for being able to read the polls. She'll need to find a job tho, as her husband is Mr. Mom and she's the breadwinner. Good luck lady.....you tried to have it all and did the best you could. Any demonrat would have been worse!

And Ted Kennedy did some Mormon-bashing in 1994 when Romney ran against him.Mitt ran a weak race after being attacked as a bussinessman and a Mormon.
I expect more of the same, I hope he grew a backbone in Utah.

Same here. I just hope he turns stuff back on it.
Mention he learned that turning the other cheek to the fat old drunk's attacks was a mistake, and this time, he's calling them out on their religious bigotry.

Now we'll have to really get to know Mitt and get behind himHe previously said he would NOT run against an incumbent. Do you need to know more about him?

Can't figure out why someone would actually want to be governor of Massachusetts. Isn't that like volunteering to be the captain of the Titanic? Course I guess it all looks good till you hit the iceberg.

Maybe that's the only kind of Republican that can get elected in Mass. There are pro-choice Republicans, and it will take a liberal to moderate Repub to win in MASS.

Would any Mass. gov. (democrat or republican) DARE to appoint anyone but a younger Kennedy to Ted's seat when he dies? I have my doubts.
