Tennessee Rep. Harold Ford just told Rita Cosby he will run for the Senate. Can he take away another Republican seat?

Hey CVA! How you been?

He won't frighten white folks.
He may not, but his opponent will certainly make sure he does.

Ford's mother provided him with the ultimate gift. She provided him the genes of a white father. Although named Ford, he is not his "father's" son.

Look, If Ford can win Tennessee, the Ford Family can steal more than I thought. However, if Ford is elected, the people of this state are dumber and blinder than I thought.
People else where have no idea of how bad the charactor of the Ford Family really is. Also I doubt the natioanl media is going to get into it and that would be a whopper of a story.

I really think Junior Ford is just really trying to get his name before the state. I'm sure he will make a good presentation gaining faviorable press while his father and uncle sink into the mud.

"Tennessee Harold Ford" -- Didn't he have a variety show in the 50's?

Ford is a die hard Clinton supporter, dyed in the wool Democrat,Black, smart and he is Democrat firsr American last.He is one of those who would declare victory for Clinton in his escapades. He must be very strong in Western part of Tenn.I have been impressed with him many times and have even thought he would make a good presidential candidate until I found him to be a total Democrat in mind, thought and deed.Do not underestimate his political ability!

Ford is a card-carrying member of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC)... I haven't seen an updated list in a few months, but unlike most other members of the CBC Ford the Lesser has conspicuously avoided direct membership in the Marxist "Progressive Caucus". I'm sure a projected future run for the Senate has had some bearing in this, since ties to a socialist/communist bunch of in Congress wouldn't play well at all in Tennessee.
Not that I'd go out of my way to get that information out, y'know (big grin)...

I have to say your "no condidate gets elected to anything after being governor" argument is about the least persuasive line of analysis I've seen on FR in a while. (and let's face it, you're up against some pretty stiff competition).

LOL, from 30 to 3.

During the last mayoral election for Memphis city mayor one of the ford brothers ran against wee willie, white republicans crossed over to vote for wee willie rather than have another ford controling government.

Most brie eaters are republicans(aka the rich, greed, corporate scum). Yummy...I prefer Cambanzola Brie myself, spread over a toasted piece of french country bread, garnished with paper thin slices of red onion. I think I will take a bottle of Cakebread reserve chardonay with that...

A quick look see from now back to about 1930 shows three former Tn governors who tried to run for elected office after being our governor and they all lost. William Cooper, Frank Clemet, and LAMAR ALEXANDER. Were those for statewide office, or for something else?
I don't know anything about Bryant, having never even seen a picture of him to my knowledge. Based on what has been posted here, I am indifferent as to which one gets the nomination, although my gut tells me that Alexander has better name recognition in the State and probably would win.
If Bryant would defeat Ford just as easily, then it's possible he's a better choice. Either way, keeping this seat in GOP hands is imperative.

Alan Keyes can't get elected because he only has one issue - abortion. If Alan Keyes would tone his preaching down a bit and round-out his platform, he might have a chance. ...then again, he lives in leftist Maryland. Harold Ford could easily win in MD.

Ignore the idiot who chided you for suggesting that the Country Clubbers sit this one out.

"Ford is very charming on TV. I don't really think he is a leftie. I think he is rather conservative tempermentally." Yeah, right. He's middle of the road -- in the spectrum that ranges from Trotsky on the left to Clinton on the right.

"Ford is a very good looking man, he has that soft spoken 'see, I'm so reasonable' voice that Daschle and Edwards use to their advantage, he SOUNDS moderate and measured. He is excellent on television - articulate and focused. He seems very serious, as though he's concerned about every voter." On the other hand, I've heard there are some, shall we say "skeletons in the family closet."
If so, the question becomes on of whether the GOP Country Club Set will refused to "lower themselves to fight on that level," preferring (as usual) to "lose like a gentleman".
When, when, when, will the GOP stop letting the Old Guard insist on taking the Marquis of Queensbury rules to a streetfight?

"Light but charming, a guy who is real, and trying to do his best, does not always spell loser. And the guy looks great. He won't frighten white folks. We shall see. It will make for an interesting political story. Ford either has the inner toughness to succeed, or he doesn't. I don't have it in my heart however to wish him failure. He might be an interesting addition to the Senate, which has become so blowdried. But I don't expect that." Having just crossed swords with you in another thread, and now seeing you in action here, I gotta hand it to you. You're smooth. Real smooth. For a "subtle" disruptor, that is.

"The times I have seen him on TV I have found him defensive and a party line man. Of course, that is just my opinion." He comes off like smooth-talking hustler.
Then again, maybe I'm jaded. Or cynical. Or sick and tired of the same ol' bullsh*t...
