I know of three "minor" offices offhand.
Dem - Carl McCall, New York, Comptroller.
GOP - Ken Blackwell, Sec of State, OHIO
"Nonpartisan, but really GOP" - Robert Young, Supreme Court Justice, Michigan.
BTW - All Michiganders, please vote for Robert Young again this November as he's up for re-election.

A quick look see from now back to about 1930 shows three former Tn governors who tried to run for elected office after being our governor and they all lost. William Cooper, Frank Clemet, and LAMAR ALEXANDER.

Ford Clinton is very charming on TV. I don't really think he is a leftie. I think he is rather conservative tempermentally. He might just get traction.Learn the lesson!

And who can forget the ever-ethically-challenged Carol Moseley-Braun.

I'm wondering if he's like the new mayor of Detroit. Kwame Kilpatrick. He was former dem majority leader. His mom is a congresswoman and his dad works for Ed McNamara(in fact you probably remember him since he's been around forever). His mom Carolyn beat the racist Coleman Young ally Barbara Rose Collins in a primary. Kwame avoids most of the race baiting, and was even attacked for not doing so and being too 'nice' to the GOP in Lansing. He did do some race baiting while running for mayor, calling Michigan the "Mississippi of the North". I think he had to bait in order to win myself. Since then, I haven't heard any baiting from him.
However as far as I know, the Kilpatricks, while are a political dynasty, aren't like the Fords of Memphis, either posititve or negative.

This does not bode well for the RNC.
Ford is a very good looking man, he has that soft spoken 'see, I'm so reasonable' voice that Daschle and Edwards use to their advantage, he SOUNDS moderate and measured. He is excellent on television - articulate and focused. He seems very serious, as though he's concerned about every voter.
Alexander is going nowhere. And frankly, while I think Ed Bryant is a very nice man and I agree with him about a lot of things, he is very bad on t.v. Next to Ford, he will appear old, out-dated and boring.

calling Michigan the "Mississippi of the North".Dan, there is some truth to that statement. The cotton fields of Mississippi and western Tennessee could no longer sustain labor after the invention of the mechanical cotton pickers. The attraction of the auto industry lured both blacks and poor whites to Michigan during the forties and fifties.

All Ed or anybody running has to do is start talking about the 1982 bank failures in this state and the name Ford is quickly remembered along with at least a monthly article on an escapade of someone in the Ford family getting in trouble.
Persons, working persons lost their life savings in one of those failures. It was a state wide failure of United American Bank and Southern Industrial Banking Corp owned by two brothers named Jake and CH Butcher. They went to prison. Just about all officers involved went to prison. The reason Ford Sr escaped prosicution was thanks to the Clintons. Lamar Alexander was our governor during those failures so he would not be able to mention it. Let's find a better GOP canidate. Bryant, Duncan, or Blackburn sounds great. All are known state wide and respected.

I agree, and there are still a lot of Southern Accents in parts of Michigan(Monroe County, Taylor).
Kilpatrick meant it in another way. Race relations in the Detroit area are better than they used to be, but there is a world of difference between the Detroit area(Infamous 8 mile road), and even Lansing.

Harold Ford SR has fingers in TennCare Till $1.6M
Click Here Harold Ford Sr might face ethics committee over TennCare dipping Click Here
Not to mention harold jr's uncle State sen john ford, his several out of wed lock kids, his fights with his drunk driving out of control soon to be ex wife; his pointing smoking "cell" phones er guns at truckers, his pulling a long gun on MLG & W workers. There is probably more. Then there is his speeding...be careful if you are going or coming from Nashville and sen ford is on the road. sen ford's dipping in the DayCare till.
BTW the ford women are feeling put upon by their males. Seems they don't respect their women. One sister wants the County Commission seat her brother that just died left open. They gave it to another ford brother instead. She will be on the ballot along with the newly installed brother.

Light but charming, a guy who is real, and trying to do his best, does not always spell loser. And the guy looks great. He won't frighten white folks. We shall see. It will make for an interesting political story. Ford either has the inner toughness to succeed, or he doesn't. I don't have it in my heart however to wish him failure. He might be an interesting addition to the Senate, which has become so blowdried. But I don't expect that.

WADR, you need to study up a little harder on the Fords before coming here to pontificate on just who Harold Jr will and will not scare. His politics are well known in Tennessee along with the corruption of his family. His will be an uphill battle just to get past the primaries.
To: Torie
The times I have seen him on TV I have found him defensive and a party line man. Of course, that is just my opinion.

Then there is no option for the Republicans but to run the same - preferably a black female. Perhaps a black lesbian female would be good.
