Black Americans are, IMHO, generally as patriotic and conservative as their white counterparts, as well as being a mainstay of the armed forces. Politically they've been taken for granted for too long by Democrat liberals who have a vested interest in fostering the mentality of victimhood and oppression. I hope for the day when the scales fall from their eyes and they realize who their true friends are.

Maybe you can answer this question. For a demographic group who is so religious and up until 30 years ago so family oriented what has happened to the family and why is there so much crime, drugs, illiteracy and illegitamacy in the black community today? Why does the black community continue to vote for the Democrats who refused to release them from their slavery in the late 19th century and refused them equal rights in the early 20th century. And continue to "enslave" them in poverty with welfare today.

My experiences, although limited, mirror yours.
The only black that I'm aware of even close to "Islam" would be L. Farrakhan (sp?) an occasional resident in the Phoenix area.
As a counterbalance to that original thread, I do know of two ex-Pakistani who are getting naturalized, 'muricanized, and starting the process to become L.D.S.

But, gross generalizations here are not uncommon.

If the Black community really is so much more Christian than the White community, why do 90+% of Blacks consistently vote for the most evil candidate on the ballot?

Any decent theologian can tell you that a conservative political outlook is a necessary implication of a biblical worldview. Any decent historian can tell you that our traditions of freedom such as common-law, limited government, individual rights, etc -- which conservatives seek to preserve and liberals are hell-bent on tearing down -- are all largely of Christian origin. But this fact seems lost on many modern Americans of all colors -- not just Blacks.

Speaking of generalizations, perhaps if you're still here you've noticed:

"Most rappers follow the Islamic faith"

"90+% of Blacks consistently vote for the most evil candidate.."

"...so much crimes, drugs, illiteracy and illegitamacy (And THAT poor spelling is an example of illiteracy!)in the black community..."

So here we have experts on the religion of rappers, specific knowledge of who blacks vote for, and an illiterate question of illegitimacy in whatever the heck the black community is. As if it was a particular zip code.

Thanks for your post Quester, and like you I'm gone. Perhaps time to reread Sowell or Steele.

My impression is that black seperatists look to things like Islam to increase their sense of alienation from the general culture. That sort of thing always gets greater press than it deserves.

I suspect the spiritual peril of black Christians is the same as white Christians - apathetic indifference - rather than the peril of Islam.

My reply ought to be taken with a truckload of salt. I am white, with few close relationships with black Americans. I do observe, however anecdotally, that Black Americans seem more pre- disposed to conversion to Islam. I knop of no hard figures, (and I appreciate the poster's stats) but I would venture if one studied the pool of American converts to Islam, one would find the percentage of Blacks to be much higher than their representation in the general population. It seems logical that for some, Christianity is seen as "the white man's religion" and Islam is seen as "African" ( accuracy aside ) Until recently, I did not view Black Muslim Americans with anywhere near the suspicion with which I did Islamic foreign nationals. I figured Black Muslim Americans had simply found a way to assuage the racial/religious chip they may have (justifiably) had on their shoulder. But recent news has caused me to re-consider. There is a settlement of Black Muslims here in my rural community. They are part of a nationwide organization called "Muslims of America, Inc." They caused quite a stir in this racially mixed but very Christian rural county. I was skeptical of the press claims that they were "linked" to terror crimes in the US, and to foreign terror groups. The Muslims I have met seemed kind, polite, and respectful...like good neighbors. They did profess loyalty to a Pakistani " Sheikh Gilani", and named their street after him. He was arrested by the Pakistani govt. for heading a terror group, and for suspicion of direct involvement in the Pearl kidnapping/murder. Yikes! I hope and pray that my Black / African-American brothers and sisters will remain / return to belief in Jesus as the only way to eternal life.

Just a few comments: Beliefs about God

84% believe that God is the all-powerful, all-knowing, perfect creator who rules the world today.

If God truely "rules the world today" then he's doing a god-awful job of it, or else does not have the best of intentions as far as the human race is concerned.

3% believe that everyone is God

OTOH, this statement could explain the above statement (still not necessarily good news, if true)

2% believe that there are many different Gods, each with different power and authority.
1% believe that there is no such thing as God.

Interesting, I would not have thought that pagans outnumbered atheists, in any ethnic group.

Considering that it was Islamic Arabs who were responsible for so much of the slave trade on the African continent, that Black Americans would consider embracing Islam seems like some sort of cruel cosmic joke.

No, but Louis Farra(con) is choosing Islam for African Americans. BTW, both the "Nation of Islam" and the "New Black Panther Party" are listed as hate groups on the Southern Poverty Law Center website. Both of these hate groups sponsored the rally in DC yesterday and the MSM and republican politicians are silent.

Are African-Americans Choosing Islam Over Christianity?

Not if they're Sudanese who have immigrated from Sudan because of the depredations of the Muslims.

Are African-Americans Choosing Islam Over Christianity?

Retarded question. Most blacks are Christian; Baptist, Methodist, AME, CME, AME Zion and other various smaller denominations. NOI is well down the line there, and traditional Islam is well down the list.

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

Gee, I just figure it's a way to get a "two-fer" when it comes to playing the victim. Black and muslim--surely the "most opressed" segment of society in their way of thinking.

"Why are African Americans flocking to Embrace Islam?"

I think it is primarily due to racial hatred against caucasians.
