[history]
The Clovis Unified School Board voted 5-2 to approve the club, with members Richard Lake and Susan Walker dissenting.
Supporters say the club promotes tolerance and equality among students of varying sexual orientation; people against the club say it promotes homosexuality and has no place in the schools.

I see them as mutants. Something went wrong. They're not male or female. They're "somethings."And mud people. They're not really human, either. Something must have gone wrong with them, or they'd have white skin and blue eyes like JEEEEEEEEEESUS! </sarcasm>

It is a hate crime to harass anyone for their religious beliefs. Pushing gay rights is against Christian beliefs (and others). So what? Pushing Evangelical Protestantism is against Catholic beliefs, does that mean schools can't have Evangelical clubs?
You don't have a religious right to stop other people from exercising their own rights. Duh.

In fact, the 30 in favor were asked to identify themselves, and most had no residence in the school district, nor children in the school district. They were simply Homosexual Activists who admitted that they had targeted Clovis Unified because of the conservative majority of familes in the district!! As for your concern of flaming for your sexual tolerance, you have already asked and answered. FresnoDAThen you have nothing to worry about. If the club has no real support among the students, it will die out very quickly. The only reason the club is getting so much attention is that everyone's trying to fight it!

Homeschooling may be better for her, but if she is that worried about an after-school club that she isn't even a member of affecting her that severely, she is going to have a lot of trouble once she gets out into the real world. Well, she said "I don't want to be anywhere in their influence." That's pretty easy to do. If you meet someone who feels it is absolutely imperative for you to accept their lifestyle, you just don't associate with them anymore. I've been doing that for years.

Just guessing that you're in your 20s. A few decades ago I sounded much like you do, just as intense and PC and repeating the popular mantra of the day. Truth is, gays can choose. It isn't easy. The Bible is more than it appears. It works. It doens't work by condemning, but by love. The sins listed along with homosexuality are common and we are all, living after the flesh are likely to sin daily...just shouting at someone, or overeating is sinning, but we do not celebrate, revel or choose to keep sinning. Sorry to preach. If only we could explain in a handy 30 second sound bite.

Bump, and there are now 4 High Schools in Clovis, with the addition of the latest, Clovis East, the Reagan Center!! Yep, Ronald Wilson Reagan!! Cool we thought!!! Sad demise. It is the bleeping Unions all the way that are the problems. Darn robots, that what these teachers have become. Lucky for them there are no cliffs, or like Lemons, they woulda' bea' jumpin'! FresnoDA

Wrong on alternate lifestyle one! The point is that Gay Activists targeted the school district, specifically because of it's "conservative" label. Brings a certain amount of "jollys" to them. Maybe you can relate.....M@R$N

The point is that Gay Activists targeted the school district, specifically because of it's "conservative" label. And the bigots played right into their hands. If the kids had their club, it would probably not even make the newspaper. By fighting it, you've just given the kids--and the radical activists--a whole lot of publicity.

A few decades ago I sounded much like you do, just as intense and PC and repeating the popular mantra of the day. So you think I'm "PC and repeating the popular mantra of the day" just because I point out how pathetic it is that some FReepers think gay kids should be bullied and physically beaten? I've seen the emotional cruelty firsthand, it's sickening.
Truth is, gays can choose.
Assuming that's true, does that give other kids license to beat them up?

Any Freeper who claims it's o.k. to beat up another (rare DNC exceptions - we're only human) isn't speaking for FreeRepublic. If you read a post from anyone on this site advocating personal attacks, hit the abuse button and the post (and often, the poster) will be removed by our wise and compassionate FR moderators.

By fighting it, you've just given the kids--and the radical activists--a whole lot of publicity. By fighting it-- you've just given the kids an example of how democracy works, today, and how important the media is to the rapid dissemination of useful information. And you've let the rest of the interested readers know, so they can prepare for an issue that will most certainly land smack, dab, in their own backyards, unless they get out there and start plowing the silent majority to save the environment. The radical activists will always be there, knawing at the bones of freedom-- keeping FReepers on their toes. The price of FReedom is eternal vigilance.

Assuming that's true, does that give other kids license to beat them up?So, you're saying kids presently have a license to beat someone up--for any reason?
I don't think so. Your hyperbole is squatting on your brain and choking the life out of your logic.
But that's you: fearlessly defending the sanctity of sodomy.

It's a normal thing to be afraid of someone who is different than we are. The more that you get to know people ..., the more comfortable you'll be around them," parent Tom Laury said to the board. "This is what the purpose of this club is. It's about learning to get along with fellow human beings." JOIN THE CLUB:
It's a normal thing to be afraid of ___________. The more that you get to know _________..., the more comfortable you'll be around them," .........."This is what the purpose of this club is. It's about learning to get along with fellow human beings."
Remember peer pressure: to get along, you gotta go along.

but the predomininant opinion of those parents present were that they opposed this trend. The board asked for those opposed/favor of the motion to stand. 30 (mostly husky women) stood in Favor, 300 plus parents stood in opposition. So what is your reasoning that the board passed on this since 300 parents were opposed to it? Just being politcally correct, I suppose?
To: shellylet
I believe the Clovis Board is in for a real surprise! Parents are already pulling their kids out! And I'm looking into options. One which is Fresno Christian apparently already has a waiting list. Unfortunately, what the clovis board morons forgot is there are a lot of parents in this school system willing to stand by their convictions. Hit them with your pocketbook! Take your kids out of their school; this will lower the FTE (Full Time Equivalent) and both state and fed money will go down. And the high school will have to lay off teachers, stop music and band, cancel sports, etc. etc.

Simple economics. They were afraid the ACLU or the GLADD group would sue. And thus risk the state and federal dollars held hostage by the gubment'!!
