Katherine Smith, a Memphis driver's license examiner who was arrested for selling Tennessee driver's licenses to 5 Middle Eastern men is apparently dead. Ms. Smith's family had not heard from her in two days when they received word that her car had been involved in a fatal one car accident near the Mississippi/Tennesse state line.
The victim inside was burnt beyond recognition and the body was transported to the Memphis medical examiners office in an attempt to identify the body. At this point it is assumed that the body is indeed of Katherine Smith.

Thanks for the ping. It will be very interesting to see how this story develops.
To: Wright is right!
But the article doesn't say a thing about the most obvious thing you check ...WHO OWNED THE CAR? YOU said it was "her car," but the article doesn't. Everyone's been tiptoeing around the owner of the car. That's got to be pretty easy to check, right? Interesting angle to consider...
Smith had told authorities after her arrest that Odtllah, who goes by the nickname "Kal," was a friend, and that he had asked her to help him obtain driver's licenses six or seven times before.
Odtllah has lived in Shelby County two and a half years. Until a few months ago, he owned a Phillips 66 gas station. He also buys and sells cars. Nash testified that Smith had said she was buying from Odtllah the champagne-colored 1992 Acura that crashed early Sunday.

A-rabs are excellent mechanics when they set their minds to it. In one of the
"Spy wore Red" non-fiction autobiographical books the Countess describes a brake-line fix that almost took her life one interesting day in Morocco.

arkancide ? -

I don't want to discount it being a hit, but at the same time it isn't necessarily so. Such disgrace as to assist terrorists COULD lead a person to suicide and to finding a means to do so that preserves life insurance receipts for family members. I don't want to discount any possibility.

This was the lead story on the Nashville 10 pm news. They said dental records would be used to attempt to ID the body. They also said it was a very suspicious wreck because the car was incinerated on the inside, but the gas tank, engine and outside of the car did not burn.the old exploding cigarette trick?

"the old exploding cigarette trick?"
Along with the old "Brakes that Fail" and "Steering Problem" Tricks. These guys need some new routines. Something more "GenX", more "High Tech", more "Imaginative". You know, like "Propellers Falling Off", "Tail Broke Off", stuff like that!
Of course, they are kinda Inbred.

The inside burned, but not the outside? I find little reason to believe that this was not a murder.
To: spokeshave
It's a good question. What did become of those papers?

Check out the video at this Memphis TV station.
Story with video link.
Shows the site of the "crash". May not be a crash, per se - just a roll up to a pole, then the torching. Interesting.

This is potentially a terrorist hit. I'm not sure about this, but the possibilities are alarming either way. I do see this as a potential suicide, although the details emerging may force me to change my mind about that. And second, this doesn't seem to fit the MO of a terrorist hit. If that's so, then it suggests to me that the terrorists are being abetted by Americans. IOW, the picture is much larger than just terrorism against America. There is collusion within. Even if it was suicide, the fact that she took her life suggests the same thing. That this is a way big story. I don't like the sound of it at all!

Check my thread at post 105.
I don't know why, but it was apparently bumped off "Breaking News", even though it is later than this thread, and has links to two informative newspaper articles.
