Word History: Bigots may have more in common with God than one might think. Legend has it that Rollo, the first duke of Normandy, refused to kiss the foot of the French king Charles III, uttering the phrase bi got, his borrowing of the assumed Old English equivalent of our expression by God. Although this story is almost surely apocryphal, it is true that bigot was used by the French as a term of abuse for the Normans, but not in a religious sense. Later, however, the word, or very possibly a homonym, was used abusively in French for the Beguines, members of a Roman Catholic lay sisterhood. From the 15th century on Old French bigot meant “an excessively devoted or hypocritical person.” Bigot is first recorded in English in 1598 with the sense “a superstitious hypocrite.”

What’s wrong with bigotry? Without bigotry we would never take a stand or hold any value or idea as fundamentally true. We would be willing to compromise on everything. But then again, that’s what the liberals want.

I'd stay. I'm pretty sure that my scoutmaster was gay, but I didnt care. He never tried anything on me and if he had, he would have gotten a fist full of nuckles.

sounds like a bunch of wussies to me. Guess I'm one of the few real men out there who wouldnt be so afraid of a gay man that they would actually quit the scouts because of their homophobia.

From Scouts I learned to live, and live well in the woods. By the time I was 12 you could have dropped me off in the woods with nothing but a knife and I would have come back fat.

At a camporee I remember winning a fire building contest. We brought a hatchet and ONE match, and were given a short piece of 2x4 ONLY to make the fire with. Had to shave that 2x4 into splinters for tinder, than so on until the fire was burning high enough to reach and burn the string. I just found out that my old Scoutmaster from over 20 years ago has moved back home and is now Scoutmaster at our old troop again. Pretty cool.

Gee I've wondered that myself. Maybe they think that grown men in the Girl Scouts would be too dangerous for those little girls. Seriously I never attended any Girl Scout functions but I suppose that they may have male leaders... I don't know. I do know that the Boy Scouts have female leaders.

I have 3 young sons who have been in scouting and I appreciate that while they are not a Christian organization, they do promote Christian style moral values. That in itself is reason enough to give them our support. Even other religions recognize homosexuality as immoral so that even they would feel comfortable in the boy scouts. The only people who would not feel comfortable would be atheists, sodomites, possibly Polytheists. I'm sure that’s a small minority of folks. Why should a few bad apples spoil the barrel unless we allow it.

Homophobia? What is that? Not wanting your kid to go camping with someone who feels compelled to tell children that he likes to have sex with other men? Are women expecting a baby who wish for a normal heterosexual child "homophobic?"

Odd that someone on FR would adopt the langauge of the left the way you do. But then you think conservatives not calling for a special prosecutor to go after Cheney is hypocritical, don't you?

Upon reading MANY of your posts I have concluded that you are just a disrupter who thinks he is clever enough to fool everyone here. You are a lightweight.
