Concealed Weapons
WCSC TV5 Snooze ^ | January 30, 2002 | Reported by Herve Jacobs hjacobs@wcsc.com

How would you react if the person worshipping next to you in church was also carrying a concealed weapon? That could soon happen if some state lawmakers have their way! The bill, proposed by state representative Jake Knotts, is sparking heated debate in the state legislature and also on the streets of Charleston.

The church, a place of worship and soon some parishioners may be carrying concealed pistols. A proposed state law would allow guns inside the church if officials there give their blessings.

(Rev. Keller)"I think the whole idea is ridiculous."

Reverend Bert Keller leads the services at the Circular Congregational Church downtown.

(Keller)"I think the practice of civilians carrying concealed weapons is dangerous, unnecessary and promotes violence which is already in epidemic proportions in our society."

The proposal would also allow concealed weapons in public college parking lots. College of Charleston students are concerned.

(student)"I suppose some people might need to defend themselves. I think when people start carrying weapons, it's more dangerous than helpful."

(grad student)"I don't feel good about that for religious purposes. I'm a quaker and we don't believe in firearms at all so I would naturally be against that."

Gun owners also would be allowed to take concealed weapons inside of state parks like Charlestowne Landing. That's right. You could pack a lunch and also pack some heat.

(resident)"You really don't know who you can trust these days to be honest. Just because you get a permit, it doesn't mean that person might not attack you or do something."

But don't look for guns in a church, college parking lot or state park near you just yet. The bill is still going through a verbal shoot-out in the legislature. The concealed weapons bill is stuck in the Senate judiciary committee. Representative Knotts expects it to make it the floor for a full vote sometime this session.

Wouldn't bother me a bit. After all, I wouldn't know for sure, now would I?

Obviously these folks never heard of St. Gabriel Possenti.

So....EMAIL THEM....I did - with the following message

I would be delighted to have someone with CCP next to me......it's better than feeling like you are a "sitting duck" where terrorists or others might KNOW everyone is unprotected, and take advantage of it (like at schools). Where are your brains? How many murders, rapes, robberies, etc. are stopped each year BECAUSE PEOPLE HAVE GUNS? Do the RESEARCH.

In the first place, if it is concealed you wouldn't react at all, because you wouldn't know about it.

In the second place, it would make me feel safer if I knew it. That is because experience shows that you are safer when citizens carry firearms.

"...just because you get a permit, it doesn't mean that person might not attack you or do something..."

It's the guy packing the gun without the permit that you have to worry about. You know, the criminal!

Temple. But I would attempt to sneak it out of his holster.

I need a .45 1911 A frame. I don't have one. If I am stealthy enough.....

And, to top it off:

(resident)"You really don't know who you can trust these days to be honest. Just because you get a permit, it doesn't mean that person might not attack you or do something."

At least in Texas, if you put all of the people with CCPs in one group, and all others in another, guess which one is 8 (E-I-G-H-T) times more likely to be arrested for a serious crime?

OK, I could do a google search and find out who/what that is, but why don't you fill me in? I am always on the lookout for more ammo to use against gun-ignorance.

Several years ago in Fort Worth Texas, a deranged man brought his rifle in to a church and started shooting people. Nobody was able to stop the massacre, because no one was allowed to legally carry in churches for self defense. The law has now been changed in Texas, so it is a little more risky for deranged lunatics to shoot up churches now.

Well... If I were a myopic, sanctimonious, prig, like this sniveling little leftist, it would probably horrify me, but then again, I probably wouldn't be in church either.

It almost was stopped. A relative's boy friend worshiped at that church and usually attended that service. He has a CCW, and is fairly proficient (I believe I turned him on to getting one). Just by happenstance, he didn't attend that particular service. He still feels a little guilty. The "If only I had been there" syndrome.

Of course, when people are there, and do stop the mass shooting with a firearm, the OldDominantLiberalMedia ignores them, as they did in the recent law school shooting.

Let's ask Jesus...

Luke 22:36 - He said to them, "But now, let him who has a purse take it, and likewise a bag. And let him who has no sword sell his mantle and buy one."

Well, without a "mantle" it might be hard to conceal a weapon, but apparently He would not have been bothered by being in the presence of armed persons.

Should we hold ourselves above Him???
