Sen. Helms May Endorse Liddy Dole This Week at CPAC
The National Journal and The Raleigh (N.C.) News and Observer ^ | Saturday January 26, 2001 | 'Weekend Scoop' Political Tip Sheet Staff

Senator Jesse Helms (Republican-NC) 'has steadfastly avoided taking sides' in past GOP primaries, but he 'is about to bend his rule some--if not outright break it.'

Helms is scheduled to address CPAC on 1/31, and he 'has invited Elizabeth Dole to introduce him.'

Helms apparently plans to 'lavish her with praise.'

Helm's spokesman Jimmy Broughton 'wouldn't say whether Helms plans to endorse Dole, suggesting: 'Stay Tuned.'

One of Dole's GOP rivals, atty Jim Snyder,: "All this pomp and circumstance is to expected for someone who's been in Washington for so long.'

There's not a chance that as a senator, Dole would be a RINO of the Specter/Snowe/Collins variety.

If you are wrong, you owe me beer. Lots of it.

Liddy Dole - you can thank her for seat belt laws.

A RINO of the first water.

I'm underwhelmed.

Fair enough. Not that I'm saying she'll be Jesse Helms II, just that she'll be voting conservative more than 40-60% of the time, unlike our friends up in Pennsylvania and Maine. If I had to guess, I'd say she'll probably vote conservative around 80% of the time.

Folks, you can squawk NOW--but when that Big November Day rolls around, if we fail to fully support WHATEVER Pubbies end up on the ballot, we have seriously bitten off our schnozzles to spite our faces. And if, because of our spite, the Demoncraps not only keep the Senate but win the House, we'll rue that day but good.

I FELT she'd win compared to her hubby.

However, I believe she is almost as much a one worlder as most of the other DC area animals.

Or am I mixing doles and pineapples?

Her only position of great concern was her strong pro-gun control stance, but she has smartly moderated it in preparation of representing her largely pro-gun Republican constituents.

moderate, middle of the road; where one is just before turning left.

Its not so much that Helms is a RINO, its just that he loves liberal women! Not sure why, but he has a record of doing so. E-Dole probably reminds him of ex-girlfriend liberal New World Order acolyte Madeline Albright. I am seriously tempted to go to the CPAC just so I can heckle E-Dole!

If Jessie Helms endorses that left-wing liberal, gun-grabbing Rino Dole, its indeed time for him to retire. Any similarity between Libby Dole and a mainstream Republican is purely coincidental. With friends like her, who needs Jeffords?

Remember what a pusillanimous pipsqueak her husband was, both in Congress and on the campaign trail? She's probably why he needs Viagra.

Increasingly the only reason people have to vote for Republicans is the 'its better then the alternative' agrument. Well, I for one would rather vote for, then against. I'll abstain from voting before I give my vote to Dole. I dont care who wins because voting Republican has still led us further down the path of socialism. Heck, Jeffords had to switch parties otherwise there would be no excuse for Republican's failure to decrease government. They finally had the legislative and executive branch and would have been exposed for the fraud they are. If North Carolinians want a conservative I suggest they look to a third party.

The national Republican supports politicians who will tow the party line which is to increase its power which necessarily means more government. Look at the House vs. the Senate which is more conservative? The House. What about the President? Hardly a conservative at all. So, to get to the top in the party you must be a leftist. I dont want to support that at all. The national parties are all about concentrating power in Washington. Other then the occasional tax cut the Republicans offer nothing the Democrats dont. They just undercut the Democrat's price.

Helm's action will not help Libby Dole. She will lose in NC because she will lose huge in western NC. Western NC is traditionally democratic yet is also very traditional. It will go for a true conservative over a liberal IF both are male. Historically, though, since FDR, it has serious ties to the Dem Party.

Libby is a RINO, as was her husband, and Carolinians know it. A Rino, repub in name only, is a fiscal conservative and a social liberal. Since western NC votes for republicans who are social conservatives, when they do vote for republicans, Libby fails the test. Traditional western NC also prefers males.

So if there choice is between 2 social liberals, Libby or some male Dem, then they're going for the male Dem.

The Republicans in NC need a different candidate. I'd recommend someone like the governor of Arkansas....or someone like Jesse Helms.

Vapid foolishness. Because you believe you can't stop a thing you see no virtue in slowing it down? This isn't death here (kill me quickly, rather than allow me to suffer a slow and agonizing demise)--this is LIFE. I submit your's is the position of the defeatest coward afraid of ongoing debate about the direction of America.

Persons like you are the very reason you don't have what you desire. You are self-defeating.

Why do you bother coming to FR at all? To whine? Looking for a pity party? Perhaps what you really want is over at the Democratic Undergound as you're so hell bent on helping them get elected by doing nothing at the ballot box to prevent it.

I remember Miss Dole doing very well initially in her Presidential bid.

Then she got wobbly on guns and abortion.. Incredibly enough, her poll numbers began slipping about that time (amazing, eh?) and the last thing I heard from her was that it was all our fault because we were scared to vote for a woman.

I don't forgive Hillary for similar remarks she has made, why should I cut Lizzy Dole any slack?

Question for you, who's really the RINO, is it Lizzy Dole.. Or is it the Conservatives?

I tell you, I sometimes wonder if we aren't a completely different breed from these "Republicans" Them and their Gun Controlling, open border, Baby Killing, Big Government nonsense.

If anyone is "RINO" it's the Conservative Right. When we hold our nose and vote simply to avoid the alternative, we are the definition of "Republican In Name Only"

And when they court the Far Right, they become "CINO"

Yep, vote for Snyder in the primary, then Dole in the general; assuming she wins with her establishment credentials and all.

I hope she isn't playing Lucy with the football on her recent conversion to conservatism, but past experience with politicians, including her husband, make me doubtful.

ROFL, nice name calling and slandering. We should give you the purple violin.

People have votes to do with as they please. Political parties don't have them, and they are owed no votes.

They have to put forward a superior product, market it and convince people to come and support it. When they fail, and the customers wind up shopping somewhere else there are inevitably a few whiners who waggle their finger at either the patrons themselves or at the competition for existing in the first place.

When, truth be told, if these guy's want to throw dirty looks anywhere they should be throwing them in the mirror for asking people to support an inferior product in the first place.

Vapid foolishness. Because you believe you can't stop a thing you see no virtue in slowing it down?

By not voting I do not give the system, or in this case the awful candidate credibility. I do not participate in trying to distinquish Dole, or most Republicans, from Democrats. It is a pointless endeavor that is not worth my time. I accept that they both have different means of accomplishing the same goal, my subjugtion.

I submit your's is the position of the defeatest coward afraid of ongoing debate about the direction of America.

Thats a bit strong, and rude. I actually would say it is more cowardly to abandon principles for convenience. The guys who fought the wars for independance in this country tended to be most principled. They fought because they would not abandon principle for the convenience of getting along, not upsetting the neighbors, or an otherwise easy life. In fact, since you mention death, it is good to remember the words of the great patriot Patrick Henry. I would not call these fighters and defenders of freedom cowards, would you?

I think you entirely miss my point, or are just mad that I'm right. I'm saying that both major parties exist to promote their own power which they acquire necessarily by taking power from us citizens. Voting for the system ensures it sticks around. Not voting for it takes away legitimacy and makes it clear to everyone the reality that we are ruled by the elite no matter how we vote. It is only by abandoning the two parties that we will ever see freedom in this country again. Or do you think that after the Republicans have helped slide us to complete communism that they will suddenly suprise us all with their conservative comeback?

Why do you bother coming to FR at all? To whine? Looking for a pity party?

Nope, I'm looking for civil debate where I might learn something. Apparently, not everyone shares my interest. What a shame.
