Vanity Post on Vanity Posts, Duplicate Posts, Trash Posts, Commie Propaganda, etc., Vol V, No. 1
Free Republic | Jan 25, 2002 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 01/25/2002 9:38:23 PM PST by Jim Robinson

Way too many vanity threads lately. And way too much trash being posted. Please try to stay on topic (politics). Also, please do a search on a significant word from the title of your article before posting. This will reduce the number of duplicates. And, along these same lines, please use the original titles on your article posts. Do NOT edit the titles. Do NOT use "My Title" titles. This will also help to reduce the number of duplicates.

And, whatever else you do, please DO NOT post from DEMOCRATS UNDERGROUND (or any other such trashy un-American socialist hangout). Free Republic was intended to be a socialist free zone. We've gone to a heck of a lot of trouble to make it that way. Why in the world would you think we would be interested in having their trash posted here?

And QUIT trashing each other. You know who you are. Knock it off! Way too many flamewars and feuds going on. And, while I'm thinking about it, QUIT trashing our conservative candidates. If you want to criticize someone's position on some policy, have at it. But do not trash or smear the man. That would include Browne, Buchanan, Bush, Keyes, et al, or whomever else may be your favorite trashee (examples listed in alphabetical sequence). The idea is to get more conservatives elected, not to trash the ones you don't like. If you want to trash someone, make it a Democrat. Thank you.

And QUIT dredging up old communist propaganda to smear our conservatives. Sheesh! Whatever else you may think about our guys, they did not hijack airliners full of people and crash them into buildings. No, my friends, not even the dreaded CIA. Anyone who would believe (or even suspect) that crap is no FReeper. I've been pulling this crap whenever I see it and several people have been banned for continuing to post it. I do not want it on Free Republic. Any current FR poster who believes this leftist propaganda, please logoff immediately, send me your resignation via email, and I will delete your account.

Thanks,

Jim

If Buchanan and that "Libertarian" guy were conservatives, Mr. Robinson, I'd see your point. But as it is...

So you are the defining authority now? Well, in respect to the request that we not trash one another, I will let that go. But why can't you simply discipline yourself to discuss the particular idea to which you take exception, in an appropriate thread, without engaging in the ad hominen attack? Both Bucahnan and Browne give their reasons for their stated views. You do not feel that you can argue for or against those reasons without trying to besmirch the man?

I wish you could step back and see how this nasty backbiting against reasoning men, over differences on isolated issues, diminishes the appeal of Conservatism to the vast, really uncommitted legions of the poorly informed, general citizenry.

Did you notice the date on that vanity post.

Indeed. It launched a million more like it. And now it is time for a bonfire of the vanities.

? ?an we unify for the 2002 election cycle and beyond without eating our own and showing division in public?

President Bush is sitting at 80% to 90% in the polls, yet we know that 40% will never vote Republican... And those are the very voters who would favor the Surrender-leaning immigration iniatives coming from Pennsylvania Ave.

The Swing Voters are with most Americans, who oppose these policies by 70% to 80%.

Seems to me that on this, the President risks eating his own and dividing our unity in public. Better to make noise here in January than to risk folly in November, don't you think?

O.K.,while we are expressing our peeves - I particularly dislike it when a thread about some contemptible Democrat results in a contest of words describing said Dem, Dashle becomes Da**hole and then someone else thinks of a worse epitaph and on and on. Hillary's garb becomes a crusty pantsuit and on and on. I start to think I am on DU with the principle subject changed. Waxman's nose seems to be a target currently. Aren't we more mature than this?

I agree. These “cute” play on words get tiring, after awhile, and they are not even funny or in most cases cleaver.

Anyway, that is my opinion.

Thank you, Jim! A much needed spanking. The only other matter that I wish you would address (again....you have in the past) is the matter of foul language. I'm not talking about a "damn" here and there. I mean some of the downright filthy suggestions about "what who can do to what to who for all I care". I like to refer friends and especially young people just becoming politically aware, to FR. Invariably, right in the middle of a bunch of intelligent, decent posts, some guy has to come up with a "filthy thought" to get his point across. Hey, after 4 years in the military and 30 years working with hardened criminals in maxi prisons, I have heard it all and can handle it. However, such talk diminishes attempts at intelligent discourse...and certainly doesn't enhance communication skills....or the FR image.

I'm beginning to think that guy was correct.

So do I. What he said conforms with what I have seen happen in the GOP and Democratic Party. I have a little analogy that I think illustrates to some extent what we are experiencing in this political cat fight.

It is well known in scuba diving that a diver can become easily disoriented with their surroundings under certain conditions. A friend of mine once related a story while diving on a shipwreck in the ocean. When he spotted the wreck it was clear the sunken ship was lying over on her side on a 60-degree angle relative to the bottom. The funny thing was, as the driver approached the shipwreck and hovered over the tilted platform of the ship for a few minutes the diver sensed that it was the bottom of the ocean that was tilted while the platform of the ship appeared to be perfectly upright! This is what happens when one loses perspective of their surroundings. And I can see this phenomenon having parallels today in how some people perceive the ideology and policies of their political parties. This is especially true when ideology and principle continually take a back seat to winning elections "at all costs". There might be some symbolism in this story with the shipwreck too.

Again, well said! The question that all of us must ask. How can we unify for the 2002 election cycle and beyond without eating our own and showing division in public?

When you say "unify," I assume that you mean to the maximum extent reasonable and possible, without surrendering sincere conviction. With that assumption, I would suggest that the best way to do that is by a frank, open but courteous discussion of the issues that do sometimes divide us. That does not need to involve an "eating" of our own. It could lead us all to a better understanding of how to appeal to a broader constituency.

Often, an initial analysis of an issue will only prompt one to promote his stand in terms of his own basic assumptions. The frank, but civil exchange, will better prepare each of us to explain our stands in terms that will be understood by a much larger constituency, that may not start with all the same basic assumptions. The free, courteous airing of our differences on the Right is a net plus for the overall cause, so long as we keep the number one priorities in mind: For me, that is restoring the America we love to the ageless values of the Founding Fathers, sustained by the same deep understanding that those men had of human nature, human history, and the proper role of the individual in a confident free society.

Looks to me like he is on board with us Saber. He can't please all the people all the time, but 9/11 did change the policy direction. Major changes on immigration were hinted at during the x-mas break. They are now talking about deportation and asking for the money to do it. We need to support that and not refer to pre-911 trial balloons.IMHO.

This is going to take time and alot of dough. We can't spend the dough unless we run a temporary deficit spending spree. This needs to be supported as well unless we want gridlock and no progress on the most important issues of our time.

Since this quote is from your home page, you must believe in it fully with all that you have posted today as an unknown newbie:

"Remember, it's not a lie if you believe it."

So keep believing in what you post. If it falls into one of the categories that Jim Rob is talking about, it will be removed.

Do both of us a favor. Don't post or ping me. I'm not interested in anything you have to say or post. Pinging me or posting me will be considered abuse, and I will flag the moderators on such abuse! Have a great day!

Perhaps I haven't happened on too many threads where this has occurred but one of the things I have noticed that sets us apart from the DU is the level of profanity. It seems there are few posts on other sites that can discuss much of anything without salt and peppering them with foul expletives. At least on this forum people tend to censor themselves to the extent of at least ***ing out offensive words. In moderation I have no problem with that. As with anything, if it gets too prevalent it becomes a distraction.

If you want to trash someone, make it a Democrat. Thank you.

Well put Jim. I'm glad to see you speaking out on all the other things to. I don't agree with everything that comes from the Republican's, but most of them are basically on our side. I won't mention the others by name, but we know who they are. Thanks, Paul

The food stamp for immigrants proposal is very recent, and came spontaneously from the White House... there has been no groundswell for that.

And there have been several other balloons floated recently to try and get negotiations with Vicente Fox "back on track."

The track they were on was Amnesty by another name.

I too took off a whole week of work to pound the pavement door-to-door for Bush and local Republicans (I worked personally with James Rogan). I am not a Republican but I absolutely detest leftism! I fear government and men with great power, period. I am a limited government/freedom-loving guy to the Nth.

I do not bash Republicans when pointing out instances of RINO-leftist-disease and whimpy "right-wingers."

I will fight for freedom, individualism, and the benevolent ideas of the Founding Fathers until I die.

I'm not sorry if what I say offends some here. Dissent is a cornerstone of freedom. I vote the same way most here do. I do,however, lean on my leaders to do the right thing. They will not find easy company with me.

I think a ban on "Boucheau" would be a loss for Free Republic.

I'M ON YOUR SIDE.

And, whatever else you do, please DO NOT post from DEMOCRATS UNDERGROUND

Thank you, and I hope you have given the sidebar moderators full authority to delete such DU posts and to delete the following "Why was my DU Post Pulled" Posts.

These DU posts remind me of back when I worked at a gas station near a highway and some yahoo would come in and say: "You should go see the big car crash out on the Interstate. It's unbelievable!"
And I'd say: "No thanks, I've seen car crashes. I know what they look like, Don't need to see another."

I think most all FReepers know what they will find at DU. If people want to go over there, that's fine. The rest of us don't need to be repeatedly told that we should go see the "car crash".

Would it surprise you that I agree with this proposal? The primary reason is that food stamps help with the most basic of needs. Without food, people of all kinds will do whatever is necessary to get it. It also comes under the Agriculture dept, and benefits the economy as well as helping people of little or no means. Commiting crimes to eat, is still a crime and hurts society.

Just food for thought from a "been there done that" American.
