Some FReepers have nicks that are obvious in their origin, others don't. I've seen several that probably have interesting stories behind them.
I thought it would be cool to see where FReepers get their handles from. If you don't like this topic, DON'T POST HERE! No one forces you to read this. I'm sure other people may be interested. If I'm the only one, let me know so I can crawl away in shame.

My name would be evident to anyone who was paying attention during the election fiasco of 2000-2001. For those who may be new to conservatism and missed it, I'll explain.
alGore had conceded the election, and then changed his mind. alGore called Dubya and told him he was changing his mind. I don't know what George said but Gore's reply was "well, you don't have to get snippy about it!"
Well Bush may or may not have been snippy about it but I was. Not to mention it does sort of resemble my personality. :)

Vetnet is short for "International Veterans Chamber of Commerce" - a project I've been working on in my "spare" time.

Being of a certain age and coping with hot flashes my handle said it all.

And RayBob was a nickname given to me by a co-worker back in 1992. She liked to do that for some reason... anyway, it stuck and was available when I signed on to FR many moons ago.

Not to brag or anything (ok, I'm bragging), but I went shooting this weekend and was able to hit a paint can 3 out of 7 shots at 300 yards with my .45 1911. Couldn't believe it myself.

In college several friends began calling me by the Spanish version of my name. It kind of stuck so I use it all the time. I answer to it just as readily as the English. I just added the 64 to the end (hope to own a '64 Vette someday).

I will try to enter new names that I don't already have, as soon as I have the time to do it.

That's funny 'cause I just watched that the other day! It used to be one of my favorite movies, but I found myself laughing as I was taken back into the 80's.

Mine come from a Kipling poem that I admire, and that apparently Poul Anderson also admired.
It also reflects my belief in republics and republicans (lower case r republicans), and my mistrust of monarchy and pure democracy.
