Some FReepers have nicks that are obvious in their origin, others don't. I've seen several that probably have interesting stories behind them.
I thought it would be cool to see where FReepers get their handles from. If you don't like this topic, DON'T POST HERE! No one forces you to read this. I'm sure other people may be interested. If I'm the only one, let me know so I can crawl away in shame.

What is an AAS? It's what they're calling an Associates now. Nothing fancy, just the paper to say I can do what I already can do, and then that way, maybe get the big bucks. I'm going to be a professional geek one day.

I have always wondered.......why is your pirate sticking a banana in his eye?
To: Balata
That one I knew..
To: Little Bill
I have no idea what that statement means. It sounds like dribbling paranoia to me though. Is your real name Bill?
To: My Favorite Headache
I wanna be like Geddy Lee
And help out everyone I see
Oh, wait, sorry about that. I was thinking about Buddy Lee.

Nothing wrong with being a professional geek. Most of the non-geeks work for them.

Database....
Well, first off, it doesn't have anything to do with describing the quality of my memory retention or even organizational abilities resulting in quickly retrieving information.
His brain is there, but his mind is a void!
Back in the early eighties, I was working at a private research institute where one of the main projects I had was a database for a research questionaire. A friend and coworker coined my nickname, DataBase, because my initials are DB. I returned to school in 1983 and lost contact with my friends and coworkers, and the nickname was placed in storage until March 2000, when it was dusted off.
Now that I think about it, Database does describe me in a way. I'm more like a database engine than a glitzy GUI.

Wait a minute, the site must be a fraud! They said *my* pirate name was Captain Mary Rackham!
BTW, my son made up my screen name. My husband is a pawn broker, I'm a family doc.

Were you named JJ after the comedian on the sitcom in the 70's? Just curious.
No, my full name is Julian James Brouwer (Jules to my friends) and when I first signed up with AOL my screenname there was jjbrouwer
I found the lucianne.com site off Drudge and simply registered my AOL name. Because Americans like initials, they started calling me 'JJ'.
I'm still Jules to friends in London, but most Americans know me as JJ.
