Some FReepers have nicks that are obvious in their origin, others don't. I've seen several that probably have interesting stories behind them.
I thought it would be cool to see where FReepers get their handles from. If you don't like this topic, DON'T POST HERE! No one forces you to read this. I'm sure other people may be interested. If I'm the only one, let me know so I can crawl away in shame.

Mine is simple, but I am not.
Been messing with electrons since I was a child and got shocked from sticking my finger in a socket on the x-mas tree.
Wirestripper=Electrician (I like puppies too!)

In 1993 a relatively famous Japanese manga artist named Masamune Shirow published his most famous work,
Ghost In the Shell.
It became such a hit that the manga was made into an animated feature film in 1995 and won awards in Asia, Europe, and wide recognition in America. The lead character was a cyborg who worked for the Japanese government named Major Motoko Kusanagi. The outfit she was a part of is called "Section Nine". Thus, my handle.

My FReeper handle represents my '68-'69 Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club membership.
Too bad I didn't know how to spell yacht when I registered. LOL

Someone in my office building wrote "Kneel Before Zod" on our furnace. Or was it " Zig for great justice?"
Either way, it's weird.

You married to Julia?
To: Bloody Sam Roberts
Uh, yeah,. I know. LOL ... I screwed up the movie quote.
"I'll kneel before you if it will save lives."
"It will. Starting with your own."

I was the only female revolutionary at Concord Bridge. I kept my powder dry, but not on my nose.
(Well, I'm not really THAT old!)

It's not just a reaction to the depressing stuff I read in the news. About 4 years ago, when I first got on the internet, I used the name Arglebargle IV, but I quickly got tired of explaining it to everyone, so I shortened it.
It comes from a footnote in Bored of the Rings, a Harvard Lampoon spoof of Lord of the Rings. I'd read this in about 1970, but remembered a reference to some king in the text, identified in a footnote as "Either Arglebargle IV or someone else". It's around page 29 these days I'm told (or is it page 19?), if you have a current copy.

Ditter is babytalk for sister. That's what my brother called me when he first started talking (and he still calls me that.) When I first joined FR back in '97, I used my own name but my kids found me so I changed it to Ditter. They have found me out again but I don't care anymore, I'm not changing.

--this is fun! Mine is my meatworld nickname I got from the dudes at work when many moons ago I made a caveman costume for an outdoor halloween block party I went to. I used "zog' when people asked me who I was at the party. It comes from my appreciation of the humor of gary larsen. zog and thag are two recurring characters he used to use in his cartoons, two cavemen. zog is always inventing lame things, like the ferrari he carves out of stone, but is up on blocks because the wheel isn't invented yet. Another time he is grilling some lizard on a stick in a fire, while the other cavemen are grimacing as they hold their slabs of meat in the fire with their bare hands. One of them looks at zog, sez "LOOK what zog do!" goofy cartoons like that, but larsen has always been one of my favorites.
