One Dead In Arab Attack
Arabs opened fire on an IDF vehicle this evening, killing one soldier and wounding two others. The soldiers were traveling near Kedumim, east of Ra'anana. One of the wounded is in serious condition and was transported by helicopter to Tel Avivs Tel HaShomer Hospital. The other soldier was lightly wounded.
At this time, it is unclear if the victims were shot at from a passing car or from a stationary ambush.
A series of shooting and other attacks was triggered off this evening. For details, see the Latest News section. Women-in-Green released a statement saying that tonight's murder is a direct result of the ease of travel restrictions for Arabs. "Sharon bowed to Zinni's demands to open the roads of Yesha (Judea, Samaria and Gaza) to Arabs and thereby compromised the security of all travelers in the area," said spokesperson Nadia Matar

Regarding the Debka thread - this is an attack on a military target, so Debka can claim they predicted this.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe DEBKA's alot better than I thought. I was just expecting their predictions to be for things more in the future than 15 minutes. But hey, maybe I should go to the site and see what traffic's going to be like on the way home.

Not reported on CNN, etc. because it doesn't quite fit with their program schedule for today.

I think "Women in Green" was a group formed to counter the "Women in Black," who were a group of peaceniks who wore black to grieve. The "Women in Green" wear the same color as combat fatigues, and I think they do a bunch of things to support the IDF soldiers.

Let me guess..."revenge", because another crazy car bomber blew HIMSELF up by mistake, commences now?

Because they are in denial? Perhaps they think that opening the borders and roads will improve conditions and that there would be no reason for the Arabs to fight. So when they see the dire consequences of their supported policies in action, they ignore it -- they simply don't want to confront the fact that they are wrong, and they don't want their audience to figure it out either. Unfortunately for them, their audience IS figuring out that they are disproportionate in their coverage and are flocking to other media sources.
It is kind of silly that they will do a report on how the road and border closures causes problems, and then ignore the consequences that occur when Israel capitulates to the pressure and re-opens the roads. One thing that is seldom reported on but should be obvious to those who are watching is the decrease in violence when Israel occupies the towns, and the resumption of violence once Israel relaxes their closures. This phenonomenon should become part of the discussion on the air.

Everytime Israel relaxes travel restrictions that gives the Palestinian terrorists the impetus to begin anew their killing and mayhem. Yet, when Israel retaliates in their own inimitable way, the international press gets on their bandwagon and condemns Israel's actions. I wish the US State Department and Zinni would keep their mouths SHUT.

No, this is a minor event. It's still an attack on a military target.
Besides, this attack was mentioned on Debka's site at about the time they posted the Iraqi article.
The story said the attack would happen around the 15th. It's pretty close to January 15th in Israel right now.

"Women in Green" also refers to the wonderful lasses of the emerald isle who proudly sport their shamrock pins and green derbies while quaffing Guinness and sayin' "How are things in Gloccamorra?" and, "Top o' the Mawrnin!"

IMHO this is a simple replay of the PLO playbook from South Lebanon. First, make life unstable for civvies via heinious terror, then train a few hardened fanatics to selectively kill IDF soldiers, keep doing until the Israeli's decide they need to pull back to 'defensible borders'.
IMHO the South Leb pullout is directly responsible for generating the PLO belief in a ultimate victory and strategy of a brutal war of attrition in Judea & Samaria
IMHO, the Sharon strategy is failing. Sharon felt that he could win a war of attrition by making life so painful for the Palies that they'd bicker amongst themselves and finally acceed to peace on Sharon's terms. However, it appears at the current ratio of dead PLO to dead IDF that the PLO is achieving its goals. (not to mention the appalling ratio of civilain dead)
As everyone knows, the PLO couldn't give a hoot about civilian deaths. At the moment, the PLO is starting up phase 2 of its replay of South Lebanon strategy, that of going after IDF units
I do not have an alternative to Sharon's strategy.....(and wish I did).....but it seems to me that Sharon's strategy is failing. IMHO A War of Attrition does not play to Israel strengths. ===========
as please note I am fully aware that the South Leb story was writ by groups formally different than the PLO, but we all know that the PLO is a many headed hydra
