All this hullabaloo about an Enron scandal in the Bush White House has got to be the DUMBEST thing I have read in my 47 years on earth. I am an investor in the stock market who reads and watches every worthwhils bit of information every day on the market. I am here to tell you that not one reputable Wall Street analyst was aware of Enron's real troubles. It is at least ostensible that Enron "cooked the books", and now the corporate accountants have admitted to shredding many documents. Now, if not one person on Wall Street knew anything , how in the name of God was President Bush expected to know anything about this?

Is anyone indexing all the Enron articles? I don't know how to do it.

ENRON? Chump change! Now the DOT.COM pump and dump scams? That's interesting! Voodo financial gymnastics, lack of SEC oversite, brokerage firms screwing investors, the NYSE, AMEX and NASDAQ allowing these dog of companies to be publically traded, etc, etc. The DOT.COM ripoff makes ENRON look puny!
At least after ENRON's fall Bush is looking into some of the rules involved with employee/investors. What did Clinton do after the DOT.COM theft? As always, he sniffed a couple of butts and went on.

I am a plantiff in 4 lawsuits against the dot coms right now.

Good catch, earlier, Pete regarding Lieberman's contributor being one of Enron's largest creditors. This non-story will die away in a few weeks when there's nothing new to report.

Let us all remember that in the Lincoln Savings scandal, only DEMOCRATS were guilty. McCain, the lone Republican questioed, almost did something, but backed out and was exonerated.

The Dems can't even get their own talking points straights. Some are made because the White House talked with Enron, some are mad because nothing was done to help out Enron and there should have been more meetings and interaction. Can't even get their own crooked stories straight!

What's the basis of the lawsuits? How are you going to get money out of them if you win?
I think that there are a lot of people that won't even talk about what they lost.

What Enron did moving assets from holding company to holding company and claiming profits on the transfer is not gambling, it's conspiracy to defraud.

Not to mention Enron is part of the evil energy business ie pollution of air and water. They are right up there with evil tobacco and need to be made an example.

You should have been paying more attention to Free Republic. Posters, here, had information on the backroom deals that Enron was making with the Clinton administration, months ago. The corporation was patently corrupt. The corruption should have sent up red flags.

I'm an investor, too, as are probably most Americans. It was a reveleation to me that a corporation could put billions of dollars of debt into another entity and not report it on its SEC filings. And it may be legal!
No, I want it investigated and anyone responsible for the conniving and anyone who aided the conniving should be hammered about it. There are probably other Enrons out there; our Congress needs to start putting laws on the books pronto to make sure that these creeps can face prison sentences. Our state legislatures need to get on the job so the creeps can go to state prisons and get to live and shower with state criminals which is harsher than federal prison life.

Liberals 2001:
The power companies are making outrageous profits. Its all Bush's fault!
Liberals 2002:
The power companies are going broke. Its all Bush's fault!

If the Bush Whitehouse is accused by the Dems. of being so conjoined by big oil, why is it that in Nov. 2000 under Clinton/Gore oil was at record high cost, and we tapped into the federal emergency reserve, and oil is now at recent record low prices. Also, what motive would Bush/Cheney have to accept any type of illegal funds from big oil, as they are both self made millionaires many times over?

No motive at all! Unlike Clinton who came to the White House with his hat in his hand.

All this is, is the Democrats looking for something, anything to hammer the GOP and to hammer an immensely popular president whom they badly underestimated (just like Maw Richards did) and whom they thought would've imploded by now and they thought would be a sure thing to defeat in 2004 and it's blowing up in their faces (sorry for the run-on sentence, just couldn't get stopped) ... and it's the anti-capitalist, anti-free market, class-envy crowd who view corporations as the epitome of satanic eeeeeeeeeevilll on this planet looking for something to hammer that which they despise.
Bottom line here is do the investigation ... which Bush is doing, the media and Dems may be yammering but they're irrelevant because that was a great pre-emptive strike ... find out if there were laws violated, and if there were laws violated, then punish the perpetrators appropriately. Doing that will again prove that Bush is on top of things, and will again defuse the Dems' and libs' yammering.
