I do believe they do feel some manner of hatred, but not towards Dr. Keyes. It is us they hate.

Speaking strictly for myself, I do not hate you guys. I just don't like Alan Keyes. Nothing hidden here. And uh, I'm just taking a wild guess here, but I don't think you have to worry about that imaginary envy, either.

Again, I think the whole issue of Keyes/Kristol is as relevant as Bush's college drinking--COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT!

Heavy sigh, right back 'atcha.

I agree with you on this point, but what I thought was odd is that you made a clear (albeit indirect) reference to President Bush (the secret society is a pretty strong clue there, KFP), and then you turned around and said (in my imagination, batting your eyelashes), "Where did I mention Bush? Who said I was talking about Bush? Wha...???"

That is disingenuous, and I still don't know why you did it. Maybe I'm just dense - Keyes supporters have certainly suggested worse. You were talking about Bush, so there is no point in playing dumb when confronted. Then again (and this is for Howlin'), it's probably me.

For whatever reason, some people either refuse to listen or cannot comprehend the simplicity of Alan's message. Some people despise Rush for the same reasons they dislike Keyes. Not everyone has a perfect personality, and just as Rush Limbaugh can tick people off because of the way he presents himself, Keyes does too. The vet's daughter has said, "I just don't like Alan Keyes" and then offers absolutely no concrete evidence why, other than generalities and comments about the good Doctor's pearly whites. That pretty much says it all.

Oh, no. It's us; the 95 percent of conservatives who didn't vote for Keyes apparently would have done so if only we had understood what the 5 percent of the conservatives who DID vote for him understands when he speaks. It's something biological, I think. We're incapable of understanding words right in front of our face.

For instance

While Keyes and Kristol were roomates in college, others were boozing, partying and members of "secret societies" doing who knows what kind of weird things.

with a reference to 1)boozing, 2) partying, 3) secret societies, 4) and who know what kind of weird things -- four scandals "leaked" during Bush's campaign -- doesn't REALLY mean George Bush, although 95 percent of us think it does! See, there is somebody ELSE out there who those four things apply to; as soon as I find out who it is, I'll let you know.

And further, when somebody says

Don't bait the harpies

it's okay because THEY don't really mean what WE think they mean.

It's one of those "Who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes" things. Ya see?

I don't deny I was talking about Bush. But the point of the post was not an attack on Bush, it was to illustrate the irrelevance of the Keyes/Kristol college roomate issue. That's why I avoided calling out his name.

Remember, this Keyes/Kristol thing has been brought up repeatedly for a long time now and I resisted ever addressing it, even though I was thinking about how ill advised it is for the supporters of someone with "college age misbehavior" baggage to go there.

Finally, when the issue came up again the other day on a pretty heated thread I decided to make my point but I did intentionally leave out Bush's name hoping that everyone would take the hint and put an end to this issue once and for all.

I refrain from personal attacks and name calling. No matter how frustrated or upset I get with a Freeper, I try to address the issue rather than calling someone a bozo, an idiot, use profanity, etc. Now being human, I'm not perfect so I'm sure if you were to search through the thousands and thousands of posts I've made over the years you may come up with a couple of examples where I slipped. But to try to use this particular example to prove that I go around engaging in personal attacks is unfair, IMHO.

What kind of "concrete evidence" are you looking for, Registered? I've seen Alan Keyes. I've listened to him.

It's true, I don't like his silly mannerisms, but that's not what caused me to form my opinion. I don't like the "massah" routine. I don't like the "You don't give me coverage because I'm a black man!" routine (a/k/a THE RACE CARD). I don't like the way he dogs and picks at President Bush. I don't like the indirect, veiled reference to Bush's decision making and "evil". If that is not enough to dislike in your world, that is certainly your prerogative, but my opinion of him was formed during the campaign and he's done nothing to redeem himself that I can see. I realize how hard that is for some of you folks to accept, but please, try. I'm not trying to get you to dislike him, after all. Just expressing my opinion here.

On this thread Keyes has been compared to Mussolini, called a bozo, compared to Jesse Jackson, etc. And what did he do to instigate this latest round of attacks? Why he had the audacity to accept a job as host of a TV show!

So it's open season on Keyes. Everything is fair game. Just don't ever even hint at any imperfections regarding their favorite though. That's still off-limits.

I don't deny I was talking about Bush.

What you said was, "Where do I mention Bush?" People can decide for themselves whether that sounds like a denial. In any case, thank you for acknowledging the fact that he is the person you were talking about. It was quite clear it wasn't a random college student you were referring to - which is fine, but I really didn't get the, "Wha...? Who...? Did I actually say the name 'Bush'?" thing.

But to try to use this particular example to prove that I go around engaging in personal attacks is unfair, IMHO.

Did I say something about a personal attack? (I may have, though I have no memory of that.) What I said was that it was disingenuous to deny you were talking about the POTUS. That's not an accusation of a personal attack. It's an accusation that you were being insincere in your response about who you were talking about.

Ummm...I don't think that's it, KFP. Now, admittedly, I'm not the one who called him those things, but I don't think the TV show has a thing to do with it.

You didn't say anything about a personal attack, but my response of "where did I mention Bush" was to a post that accused me of making a personal attack on Bush and using it as an example.

If I wanted to use that issue as a personal attack on Bush, at the very least I would have mentioned his name. But certainly you'll never find me showing up on a pro-Bush thread (like Day in The Life of...or a thread praising Bush for a speech he gives, etc.)and bringing that kind of stuff up. But the Keyes bashers here do that kind of thing all the time.

Now, admittedly, I'm not the one who called him those things, but I don't think the TV show has a thing to do with it.

You have more class in your little finger than the ones who called him those things.

The subject of this thread is that Keyes signed a deal for a TV show. These folks show up and start calling him names. Nowhere in the article does Keyes or his staff say a critical thing about anyone. Yet these people use the occasion of this thread to continue their Keyes bashing, continue old flame wars and try to stir up trouble.

If they are mad about Keyes for something else, they certainly had their opportunity to attack him for those reasons on previous threads relating to those issues, and you and I both know they did.

So as I said, what did Keyes do to anger these people this time? He got his own TV show.

Well, I've spent time thinking this out....especially after having received a letter from one of the more notable CLOSET KEYESTERS last year. Putting aside my belief that the poster doesn't discuss shortcomings with God much anymore, it keeps coming back to this CLOSET KEYESTER.

And if there is any doubt, just since I announced that Southflanknorthpawsis had won, their excitement has picked up substantially. It sure looks like a two-way race seeing as how a call for compassion seems to have taken precedence over the desire to win at all costs!

Right now, we're looking at 15 from Daughter--in less than 24 hours, no less. Its going to take a Herculean effort by Howlin to match or beat that, inasmuch as she only has 11 since the first days' winner was announced.

It is quite possible that 'hate for Keyesters' is the motive, but I thought Republicans were above 'hate' and all that stuff that was identifiable with Democrats. I can see your point about hate or envy or yes, frustration, resulting from not having to be ashamed of those you admire most.

I'm so thankful and happy that I don't have to worry about what 'is' is; about hostile terriers; about taxes passing over or under any body, dead or alive. I prefer someone who knows what government is supposed to be about, who respects our founding documents, who knows the difference between a philosopher and Jesus Christ, and has a wife that goes about her life with dignity, grace, and class.

BTW, I believe I've figured out why there is a constant harping about 'being told what he really said'....its probably a combination fo the general overall decline in conversation in the US, 8 second sound bites, and having leaders that you need an interpreter for!

...watching him make mincemeat of Dershowitz during their "church and State" debate convinced me that this guy needs greater exposure.

That was one of the greatest events that I have ever witnessed on tv!

Nice to see you posting again ... but I repeat, this thread has become overly personal. I wouldn't join in the brawl, if I were you. Much of the latest material should be in private freepmail, IMHO.

If discussion of the show, after Jan 21, becomes equally personal and unpleasant, why not take the discussion over to www.declaration.net? We have a forum there, with much diversity of opinion [esp on the Civil War] but also much less baiting and bad manners. And I can ban anyone who gets out of line!

Best to you,

Richard F.

Do you expect this sort of standard from Alan Keyes himself?

Have you ever seen Alan Keyes tear another person down? Of course not. He doesn't do it! You all are over-reacting to one man's critique of the President's policies.

I've seen him snipe at Bush over petty stuff, and it's clear I'm far from the only one who has come away with that impression. Your interpretation - that "he doesn't do it!" - is quite different than mine, but Gelato, that does not make me wrong.
