Here's one from Karen who's from upstate, New York. Big territory. "Bill, I almost always agree with you, but you are really wrong on this one. The pilot did exactly the right thing. And anyone who believes a government ID cannot be forged is living in a fantasy."

So, you think the pilot should be making phone calls to try to verify a passemger's story. A pilot's job includes taking complete responsibility for the safety of his passengers. He isn't a security worker, but he has the final responsibility for the security of his passengers and plane.

This is a big responsibility and it has to be fulfilled in addition to the pilot's responsibility to keep to his flight schedule and obey takeoff, routing and landing instructions given him by ATCs. Balancing these responsibilities is the main purpose behind the FAA regulation which establishes that the captain is the final authority on board the plane.

If you want the air travel industry to come to a screeching halt or to be destroyed, then pass your PC concerns on to your Congresscritters and give them the pretext for further muddling airline security issues such as the authority of a flight captain.

You’re on this flight. The Captain comes on the intercom and delivers the following announcement:

Ladies and gentlemen, before we depart I would like to make the following announcement. We have a passenger on this aircraft who is carrying a gun. He says that he’s a Secret Service Agent. He has tried three times to submit the paperwork that would authorize him to board this flight with a loaded firearm. Each time he has filled out the paperwork incorrectly. He appears to me to be nervous and anxious. I believe he has been acting in a belligerent manner. I’m going to allow him to remain on board because he is of Middle Eastern descent and I’m concerned that if we deny him his seat he might file a lawsuit against this airline claiming racial profiling. Before we close the doors and push back I’m going to allow any of you who would like to take a later flight to grab your stuff and leave.” Just how many people do you think will be on that flight?

If the whole incident wasn't so bizarre it would make a great comedy skit.

"I have heard that several passengers agree with the Agent and only AA employees agree with the Pilot."

. . .the passengers had no way to know the details/issues leading up to this passenger being detained; agreeing with the passenger vs the pilot, when one is clueless as to the realities of the situation means nothing. . .

. . .not to mention that these 'hearings' can easily come from Lib exageration/spin to inflame an issue they love. Fact is, I 'heard' some passengers supported the pilot's version as well. . .bottom line, it is irrelevant to the fact that the Pilot responded to a problem that he was presented with. . .

. . .if this agent was in anyway uncooperative/unwilling to follow through with complete and proper information; then maybe he was just arrogant or maybe just looking for an issue; or suffering from a bad meal.

WHATever, he was not taking care of HIS business properly.

This is from American Airlines Statement its self. They say they did not racial profile then go on to say they found this Arabic material in his un-attended seat (un-attended because they took him off the plane).

The Control Manager also says the pilot asked him for pictures of terroist (they are 99.9% ababic) then later on says on the next day he told this agents supervisor he was 1000 miles away and un-aware the agent was Mid-Eastern. Right and I have a bridge to sell you. This out right unnecessary lie makes everyting else in the entire AA statement questionable. The Agents supervisor knew the agent was Arabic so did everyone else involved. Especially the next day after the news was out. There is no way on earth this man did not know this agent was Mid-Eastern when he talked to the agents Supervisor.

"Whorealdo would. "

No he'd say he was on the flight. Then later have to admit that while he thought he was on that flight he was actually on a Northwest flight out of Minneapolis. Honest mistake could happen to anyone.

First of All Press and Carlton agreed that this pilot was in the wrong.

Pick yourself out of the gutter. Seriously, who cares what these media morons think.

You are in the Terminal and hear a voice over the intercom system. Attention a suspected Terroist has just been kicked off flight 155. He is armed and dangerous. We suspect he is connected with 911. Have a good day.

This is what the pilot claims he did. Let a suspected terroist that was armed back into the terminal. He didn't call security or the White House to inform them. He didn't stop the agent in any way and he did all he could to upset the Agent by refusing to talk to him and kicking off a flight he had a ticket for. He claims the man was too dangerous to fly on his plane. Even if you say the Pilot was right in taking the man off the flight he was wrong in not assuring the man was in custody. If he really was a Terroist he could have eaisly used his weapon to try to commender another plane.

...unfornately the President was right and the pilot was wrong....

Yes.

The President keeps this armed agent by his side, but unAmerican won't even let him on their plane.

One other aspect of this that's pretty tawdry ; American operates their hub from Fort Worth. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram publishes the agent's name, against his wishes, but suppresses the name of the pilot.

That stinks.

This is a well known logical fallacy. Just because the pilot could not confirm that this guy was a legitimate SS agent does *not* imply that he was a terrorist. The pilot probably wasn't quite sure he was legit, but wanted verification. Unfortunately, the agent became belligerent and got booted before he could be verified. And yes, people are quite regularly booted off of flights for being belligerent. No doubt you've read many of these stories even prior to 9/11.

Put that on hold, until the agent's lawyers subpoena details of the ethnic origin of all persons bumped from flights by American since 9/11. Then, we can all share a laugh.

At your expense.

How am I "against the President" on this? Has the President come out and issued a statement that the pilot was wrong? I do think that the President was foolish to make his statement about intending to be "mad as heck" if the agent turned out to be the victim of profiling.

Anyway, disagreeing with the President isn't a capitol crime or even an act of disloyalty to the US. I've disagreed with Presidents on one thing or another ever since LBJ was in office. I disagreed with Clinton everytime he opened his mouth, BTW.

You seem to have some obsession that no person of Arab ethnic origin should have to act responsibly. Are you really an Aussie, or what?

Btw, do you think anyone is keeping records of the ethnic origins of all people thrown off flights, for example for being drunk and unruly?

He apparently cares more about his own wounded pride than in service to his nation or to the POTUS .

1st, he apparently cared a great deal about doing his job, which is protecting his passengers, crew and aircraft.

Second, I thought the President was supposed to serve the nation and its citizens. Sounds like you think our President is some kind of monarch. Scarey.

Yes.

Yes I do, and I think those records will be a real smoking gun when they're retrieved from the security or legal divisions of American. They'll probably explain the agent's motive for taking a stand over this; ie, that many, many persons of Arab descent are being booted off planes on specious grounds, and the only way to stop it is for someone to take a stand.
