This war's odds are massively in our favor: what, 3,000, 4,000 of them and two of our guys? I doubt history has ever seen a conflict in which one side lost so few.

I did.. it wasnt it got deleted solely based on the title apparently... I guess someone typing in secondhand comments they see on a Fox News report means that posting an AP article from the wire with more information gets deleted...
Sorry again. But if you leave off the source, you are setting yourself up for failure. If you name your source, then you eliminate THAT as a fault in your post. I'm not being facetious (SP?). If your post had been up on breaking, I would NOT have posted this article on Breaking. . .

Something is wrong in our thinkinig if we regard a single death in a war as huge news.

I think you are wrong!.. we just finally got it right!!

We honor every single life..and we will never let another Vietnam happen, or a Korean War,.. or WWI, and WWII. Or a Pentagon Attack, or WTC's. If there was a mistake our Country made in the past.. it was in devaluating life the way we did! The way some on this thread seem to be doing. It does NOT make us weak to mourn the "Ulitmate Sacrifice" that a CIA agent or Military or anyone aiding our Country gives, when they give up their life for us. What have YOU given up?

Because we DO value EVERY SINGLE/ONE Life.. is why will will always win against terrorism, and evil. I'm thankful our Nation FINALLY gets it!! WE ARE STRONGER THAN WE HAVE EVER BEEN! EVER!!

Look at the Americans. See how they weep and wail over a single man? They have no stomach for a fight.

I think you have it backwards. Our pain quickly turns to anger and strength. It increases our will to fight.
Where have you been for the last 4 months???

we will win against the Al Queda and Taliban.

How will we do that if people like you are reduced to sobbing over a single casualty?

A nation that claims "We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail" cannot let a single casuality bring it to tears. How many threads are already going here on FR over this one man? Don't you people understand that this is a war and that people die in wars?! If a single death shakes us so, then we ought to surrender and beg for mercy. However, if we want to win this war, then we need to get used to the idea that sometimes our guys get killed. This one man's death ought not be a news item.

"This war's odds are massively in our favor: what, 3,000, 4,000 of them and two of our guys? I doubt history has ever seen a conflict in which one side lost so few."

Yep, you're right on there.

I still don't get why redcloak thinks it's "wrong" to pause and express sadness over the death of one of our men...especially when we know that WE could be the next of kin called by the military next time.

Why is it that to foreigners, we're blustering and insensitive when we express a heartfelt wish to kill these people in return for the death they dealt to us...but we's "pantywaists" [sic] when we express sadness over one of our own?

We're d@mned if we do, and d@mned of we don't.

"We, the unwilling, are doing the impossible, for the ungrateful, with nothing"

Bless all of our boys. Be assured, redcloak, that we will stop and mourn. Then we will avenge this death a hundredfold. Have a nice day.

Military stuff is hard, dangerous, exhausting work done by very young men and women and they get killed just getting to the battlefield. For every SF guy there are hundreds of support personel, working day and night, rain, dust, around jets, props and decks all of which is a OSHA nightmare. I cann't say enough good about them.

The U.S. fighter was killed in a gun battle in the vicinity of Khost, near the Pakistan border ...

Khost is in the Tora Bora area ... are the Marines sweeping the Taliban cave complex in that area?

Thanks, TGYC! How thoughtful and considerate! (Unlike some of the posts on this thread about our feelings for loss of life being a WEAKNESS). . .

No of course not silly!!! We served both served during Vietnam. None of our peers died, nor where they ever POW's. My husband never weeped after helping an arm or leg be amputated, or when his shifts were done for the day. I never cried after holding a POW when he returned to nothing.. no wife left.. no home. Nope.. don't know what we are talking about in this house. But thank GOD that you DO know!!
