The Black Pope
Me

As I understand it the term "Black Pope" refers to a Pope who is also a Jesuit. I was raised a Catholic and I have to admit that I am woefully ignorant about this. Has there ever been a Jesuit Pope?. If there were one would he wear black? With John Paul II in bad health, what do you think the chances are of a jesuit becoming the next pope. Enquiring minds want to know!!! My fathers side of the family is Irish so Ive seen enough catholic, protestant fighting...lets not start one on this thread.

I was listening to a program on the radio where this was briefly mentioned, just enough to get me curious.

Three black men have been pope, and all are saints. The first was Pope St. Victor I, who reigned from 189 - 199 AD. He decreed the celebration of Easter on Sunday, and convinced Emperor Commodus to stop persecuting Christians. Victor died a martyr, and was buried on Vatican Hill near the tomb of St. Peter.

There is much speculation that the next pope may be South American or African, however... and who and who isn't "papabile" is always fodder for conversation in Vatican City.

The term "Black pope" refers to the Jesuit Superior General, the head of the Jesuit order, and not to a Jesuit who has become bishop of Rome. I believe there have been a few Jesuit popes, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

The Cardinal who walks in a favorite for the Papacy walks out a Cardinal.
I'm almost certain that the next Pope will be Italian. JPII was elected thanks in part to a three way split of competing Italian candidates. Konig, a German cardinal, "campaigned" for JPII who was an outside favorite and got him elected with the help of "Germanic" and US votes.
This time around a conservative Italian cardinal will be elected.

Never a Jesuit popeThe Selection Process
"Potential Popes: Profiles Of the 122 electors in the College of Cardinals, 106 were appointed by John Paul II. Also, there has never been a Jesuit pope. Indeed, the word "Jesuit" has at times been used as a pejorative."

I always thought the term "black" as it relates to Jesuits referred to the robes they wear -- black ones. The American Indians called Jesuit missionaries "black robes", for instance. I could be wrong about this, though.

The Jesuit General, and the other high Jesuit Generals, they are sorcerers. They are Luciferians, and they worship what they would call Lucifer. They do not believe in Satan. They believe in Lucifer. What unmitigated tripe! Now I will admit that many Jesuits are unabashed liberals. It was after all, some Jesuits who gave the Kennedy's their 'blessing' to say they were 'personally opposed but' to abortion under the guise of 'separation of Church and State', all the while Teddy was doing everything he could to push it on America.
The head of the Jesuit Order is referred to as "The Black Pope" because the Jesuits have always thought of themselves as the 'educated ones' the ones who are smarter than all the other religious orders. They have been the ones who have supported education through the centuries. I don't think that was for any evil purposes. Maybe at some point in time they actually kept the Church going when there were selfish, weak men who were heading the Vatican. In other words, they kind of set themselves up as a second papacy, keeping the Faith when it was floundering, believing they were the ones who were best people to save it.
I have known some Jesuits who were very good and holy men, and I've known of some who were very full of themselves. They are just men, after all, and can make mistakes like all of us. They are not high on my hit parade right now as a group because they seemed to have gotten stuck in a left-wing Democrat mode for the last 30 years.
But I think all this 'Lucifer' crap comes from some garden variety Catholic bashers.

I heard there was some sort of prophecy regarding this. If a "Black Pope" portends the end of the world, perhaps we should warn the Vatican so they can hold off appointing one.

JPII was elected thanks in part to a three way split of competing Italian candidates. I believe his papacy was pre-ordained by God. Some amazing world events took place on his watch, and more may come before he passes.

He gets the credit for these, right? What about all the wars and atrocities which occurred? Perhaps he was off-duty those nights.

The Holy Father definitely deserves credit for sparking the collapse of Communism in Europe, particularly in Poland. The Communists never made a greater mistake than to allow JP into the country after he became pontiff - it allowed an alternative faith to Communism into the country, and gave the moral strength to resist an athiestic doctrine.
JP also deserves credit for reasserting the conservatives power in the Holy See. That had been under attack since the end of World War II.
