Beirut (dpa) - A shop which belonged to an Islamic preacher in the southern Palestinian refugee camp of Ain Hilweh was blown up Wednesday, Lebanese police said.
The explosion destroyed the shop, which sold mainly household goods, police said.
The shop belonged to Sheikh Arfan Issa, of the Association for Islamic Welfare Projects, a pro-Syrian Lebanese group which recruits in Sunni working class districts of Beirut and Tripoli and in the Palestinian camps.
The group are called Habashists. Their leader, Sheikh Nizar Halabi, was murdered, allegedly by the fundamentalist Osbat al Ansar, which is on a U.S. list of ``terrorist'' organizations.

You really need to know what you are doing, when you use old washing machine timers for bomb timers.

Truly this is the best outcome, and EOD techs worldwide are applauding.
Of course, there is also the chance that IDF specialists in a passing truck had "something" to do with it.

"Of course, there is also the chance that IDF specialists in a passing truck had "something" to do with it." Just a 'stray' electronic signal, huh?

I am sure the IDF would deny any knowledge.
Accidents and "stray signals" both happen.

This is what they found in the Al Queda apartment in Manila in 95:
the apartment's contents, which included a cornucopia of explosive ingredients - sulphuric, picric and nitric acid, pure glycerin, acetone, sodium trichlorate, nitrobenzoyl, ammonia, silver nitrates, methanamine and ANFO binary explosive, among others. Funnels, thermometers, graduated cylinders and beakers, mortars and pestles, various electronic fusing systems, timers, circuit breakers, batteries and a box of Rough Rider lubricated condoms rounded out the home laboratory, which included chemistry reference manuals and a recipe written in Arabic on how to build powerful liquid bombs.

Think of it as evolution in action.
Dead in the explosion were Habashite emir (leader) Achmed the Awful, his rarely-seen cousin, Ahmad the Anonymous, and Habashite Chief Demolitions Engineering Officer, Selim the Stupid...

Was this apartment the one where Al-Qaeda had an oopsie while brewing some explosives? A friend of mine who studied some chemistry at CSU Long Beach said that the other folks in that building were lucky that the stuff didn't cook off...

Given what was found the blast was almost inevitable. The cookbook formula for nitro-glycerine has been arround for a whole lot of years and it is a very effective explosive but not something I would care to be near. picric acid is way too senwsitive for my taste and another explosive I would not wish to be handling. Oh well, I guess i am just not expert enough unlike ol Ahmed and Ali. either that or I like having as many of my body parts in their original location as possible.
As to the Rough Rider brand I can not for the life of me remeber that brand being used for anything. I guess I am old and out of date. Trojans yes but I never even heard of Rough Rider.
