When my husband was serving in Beirut, the Marines used to give their cocoa packets to the little kids..... The picture above mentioning the Marines giving food to the kids really touched my heart.

Why is it I trust the women in the photos who have removed their veils more than those who keep them on? They certainly seem happier.

This picture has been seen everytime the US goes to war, it shows the basic goodness of our boys! All the little perks like Hershey bars and Cocoa packets they are issued to give them a lift are invariably passed to little kids to give them an even bigger lift!!
God Bless the US Military and all who serve!!!

Why did I expect this picture to start singing a Gilbert & Sullivan Operetta?
I am the very model of a modern major general...

Yep, I see they've mastered the art of napkin-folding. Mine never turn out as well.

The US has many friends who were young children in war-torn areas getting their first taste of chocolate from an American GI or Marine.
This is where we *really* win the war.
God bless our wonderful troops!

Thank you Nitro - my husband said they also gave the kids candy, gum and chocolate from their C-rats!

I understand that some Afghani women are afraid to remove that ghastly outfit they were forced to wear. Many of these women are too afraid because they don't know how long, or what kind of a government they are going to have. I suppose they feel "better safe than sorry". Then there's tradition regarding how women dress. As an American woman, it's completely alien to me and completely not understandable. It leaves me wondering about terrorists, etc. Does the Muslim world think they are going to take over America and force American women to wear burquas? I don't think so! And yes, the women who removed their veils look happier and more hopeful. And I do hope for them although I am dubious, at best, about the future of their country.
