Pity poor Bill Clinton. While the rest of the country is worried about the war on terrorism, he's agonizing over -- surprise! -- his own legacy.
Seems that Clinton gathered a bunch of former aides and Cabinet secretaries to his New York office last week out of concern that his accomplishments as president have slipped from memory. They agreed to organize a corps of supporters to talk up his achievements and keep his profile from disappearing.
``We have to remind people of what we did on the economy, what we did with the crime bill, what we did with terrorism,'' one Clinton adviser told the New York Times. ``They're trying to pin the bin Laden thing on us.''
It's not unreasonable to muster one pang of sympathy -- just one -- for the ex-president. Even in the best of Clinton days (before the Lewinsky escapade), his strengths -- such as balancing the budget to help point the economy upward -- went unrecognized by his frothing opponents.
But Clinton's time as president is over. His latest scheme showcases perhaps Clinton's fatal flaw -- his boundless, blinding love of himself.
Better he should take a cue from the last Southern Democratic president, Jimmy Carter. In the two decades since he left office, Carter established a foundation in Atlanta promoting peace and democracy worldwide. If he isn't building houses for Habitat for Humanity, he's monitoring elections in Guyana or Indonesia.
Clinton could do the same, devoting himself to one of the issues he embraced during his presidency -- perhaps racial reconciliation or national service. Aside from improving the world, Carter's post-presidential service has transformed his image from failed president to wise elder statesman. If Clinton looked beyond himself for a change, he might be able to do the same.
Are you somehow implying that Bill Clinton is a beast?
WOW...that is something!! The Virginia Pilot is one of the most-unabashedly Leftist bastions of bull$#!+ this side of the Washington Compost or the NY Slimes!! I still wouldn't use their paper fer the bottom of a birdcage, though, so thanks for the heads-up, my FRiend!!
FReegards...MUD
Balanced budgets have very little to do with a growing economy. The economy grew like wildfire in the 1980's without anything near a balanced budget.
Ditter, it was bad enough to be afflicted with this raping, lying, traitorous clown during the eight years he & his pals ran roughshod over America and everything that was decent and good within her.
And now they just won't get out of our faces, so we all need to keep reminding everyone how they were conned, fooled, swindled, lied to, spun and deceived for eight sorry, shameful years.
Anyone remember his shameless gaze into the cameras after he raced back from Australia after 9/11 to let himself be seen hugging grieving family members of WTC victims? Hopefully, they didn't allow him close enough to ground zero that he could loot stores in the neighborhood.
Clinton: Just Go Away!!... and take your weeping apologists with you.
Back in the '50's in Sunday School, we were taught what Clinton missed...how to spell "JOY...

Frankly, I think the case could be made that the balanced budget contributed to economic prosperity (less gubmint spending). But, the point is that balancing the budget was a conservative goal which x42 glommed onto as a part of his "centrist" marketing scheme. Remember him parroting this phrase over and over and over again during the campaign, "...it's paid for in my balanaced budget"?
We're not blaming Clinton for defending himself; we're blaming him for (see list in post #2).

If I recall correctly, he did go on down near Ground Zero.
And he ATE the food that was there for the emergency workers! PIG.
Perhaps if Xlintoon would keep his bulbous nose out of the public eye, and stop shilling for a "legacy" his "enemies" would stop persecuting him. As long as we see his sorry A$$ in the papers trying to lie about what him and his administration did, I hope there will be people who are willing to speak out and correct the lies he's spreading. Throughout his administration we saw DUMMYcrats lying to protect this sorry excuse for a human being, we saw the press and hollywierd toadying up to him and the Hilderbeast, no matter what they did, now he's out taking backhanded slaps at our history, indirectly blaming others for the attack and we're supposed to remain silent? I don't think so.
