Well Duh.

If he can not win it as a sitting vice President, why should he have a shot at it now?

This would have been like giving Bush senior another shot at it after he lost to Clinton.

I'd like to know how many democrats would think Gore won fair and square if his partial recount scheme in democratic districts had been allowed to continue and he had somehow gotten the votes he needed added to his score....Anyhoo.

USA Today is simply smoothing the way, knocking down hurdles, and prematurely dooming opponents for the "mother of all media suck-up, create a resume that does not exist, and fabricate a presidential candidate out of whole cloth" campaign.....that of HRC in 2004

What amazes me is the complete LACK of feedback from the rats after the recent news stories after the media recounted the votes in question, where, by the way...

BUSH STILL WON

This goes to show us, then, that at least 48% of all Rats are IDIOTS that can't see facts for what they are....I will surely sleep better at night knowing these idiots are in our government, making decisions with MY tax money, when they can't even look a fact in the face.

Why would they back Gore. He lost, and he really SHOULD have won, but he screwed it up. How do you lose West Va? Dukakis won it. How do you lose your home state? Why was Minnesota, Washington, and Oregon even in play? Dukakis won those.

This election was Gore's to lose, and he lost it.

How about Yasser Daischle or is he the Pit Yorkey? Socialist Gebhardt?

If no, the rats are going to have to polish up one of their own like Gerald Nadler, or Maxine Waters, or oh by golly, my stars...who can the rats clean up to appear to be an acceptable candidate?

Got it - Kerry from Massachusetts looks like Mr. Clean, and Mass is a wonderful state that produces great leaders like Ted Kennedy.

Kerry just seems to be middle of the road, and how about Leahy for VP because it is too early for the Hildeabest to peak.

LOL, I think I hurt myself laughing.

" Overall, 48% of Democrats say Bush won on a technicality..."

Uh, that technicality would be the U.S. Constitution.
(Even if you believe the democrats played fair, which I don't.)

Al Gore hasn't decided yet whether he will run for president again in 2004, but two of three Democrats - 66% - say they prefer someone else as the party nominee,

Just shows you how vicious those democRats are: One wee slip-up and you're, like, history. Totally. Sheesh. You'd think we were living in Iosef Stalin's Soviet Union or something. Give the guy a second chance, the same kind of second chance they'd give Mumia!

They will throw up Senators Edwards, Clinton, maybe Durbin. I hate Hillary just as much as the rest of you, but do not underestimate her popularity with weak voters.

If it were not for the Electoral College Gore would not even have been nominated for Vice-President and then President. A direct election of the President would mean that the geography of the votes would be irrelevant. The reason the DemocRATS ran a ticket with two "southerners" (I use quotes because Clinton and Gore are southern only in origin not in their attitudes) because the Democrats had performed very poorly in the south in the previous quarter century. Without actually having to win state by state races all over the country, the Democrats would have been free to run a much more left wing campaign that would appeal to DemocRAT voters in the northeast and the west coast. If all they had to worry about was getting warm bodies (perhaps cold ones too) to the polls in the largest cities, the Democrats would have nominated Mario Cuomo.
