Arafat: I'm willing to sacrifice 70 to die to kill one Israeli
Independent Media Review & Analysis ^ | Date: 18 December 2001 | Aaron Lerner

Posted on 12/18/2001 10:10:19 AM PST by the_second_moon

Israel Radio West Bank correspondent Avi Yissakharov reported this evening that Yasser Arafat declared in a fiery speech in Ramallah today that "all Palestinians are Muhammad al-Dura", that all Palestinians are martyrs. 12-year-old Muhammad al-Dura was killed in the Gaza Strip last year while his father tried to protect him from crossfire. Arafat called for all to join in the struggle to stop what he termed the Israeli program to Judaize Jerusalem. The crowd roared back to Arafat "millions of martyrs are already marching to Jerusalem." Israel Television Channel Two reported this evening that Arafat also told the crowd that "I am willing to sacrifice 70 martyrs to kill one Israeli" and called for a continuation of the struggle against Israel.

"...Actually the real question is: What would a good father be doing by bringing his son there?..."

I agree.

They're morons. Cowardly, negligent, village idiots.

Not surprising considering how little value they place on life.

Oh, I beg your pardon, but they (Palestinians) place the value of $2,000.00 for each child killed by the IDF for the family.

Personally, I would be insulted at that level of compensation. Not to mention being a fair amount p*ssed off that the mullahs and imans wave the red flag of war in front of impressionable kids all day long.

They should have written (see bold insert):

Israel Television Channel Two reported this evening that Nobel Peace Prize Recipient Arafat also told the crowd that "I am willing to sacrifice 70 martyrs to kill one Israeli" and called for a continuation of the struggle against Israel.

Everytime this piece of human garbage incites violence, the press should remind everyone of the pack of idiots who gave this man a peace prize.

If they had been the sand stone wall would have been penetrated or severly damaged

Yes, but it seemed to me that the stone wall was actually penetrated, and that you could see light through at least one of the holes. That was partly why I found it credible. And the fact that the forensic investigator had picked the info from the soundtrack that not only was it a .50, but probably old and badly in need of maintenance.

I remember an incident, caught on videotape (or film) that clearly showed a cowardly, clueless man absolutely failing to do what was required to (at least attempt) to protect his son from gunfire.
I don't think that's fair.

He had nothing to fear from Israeli forces, they were in no position to hit him or his son. In his mind, he had nothing to fear from his fellow Arabs. If you look at it that way, in truth as it developed, every single one of his movements is understandable.

I have to agree with Sabraamerican. I don’t think its very easy to judge a man caught unprepared in the middle of a cross fire. If you look at the pictures, understanding that in the first he is facing where the Israelis are firing from, it appears he is in front of his son. Then the fire shifts in the second photo, and you can see him react to that. Then they die.

Its hard to know for sure, but your judgment is harsh.

Thanks for the picture. I'll say again that Israel has to be the most tolerant nation that has ever been when it comes to the freedom its rabid enemies enjoy within her own borders. Amazing.

Has the Arafat "70 to 1" quote gotten any major media coverage? I suspect it has not and will not, but I've been largely out of touch with the news today other than an occasional glance here on FR.

Sounds like Darwin is going to kick Arafat's ass unless he bothers to learn basic arithmetic...

But what it does do for me is make me wonder what is truth and what is a lie.

Yes, you do seem to have a problem telling the difference.

Does anyone here actually believe that Arafat said that ? Not me , no sir , no siree.

Arafat has said dozens of equally outraegous things over the years, but has usually been careful to address them only to select audiences of anti-Israeli Muslims. His apologists explain it away with a *wink wink nudge nudge*, suggesting that he is cooking up a bit of demogoguery strictly for hometown consumption. i.e., that he himself doesn't really believe what he is saying but says it anyway to keep his supporters in line.

your terrorist is somebody else's patriot.

While there are some gray areas, for the most part this is just not true. The Patriot defends, or attacks the attackers. A terrorist goes after innocents. Often as not, to deliberately provoke a response in order to rally it's own people against "the others". Young folks out for a Pizza are not soldiers of the oppressor. People going to work in a skyscraper or taking a plane trip are not soldiers or oppressors either. While the Pentagon might be considered a military target, if one is at war with the United States or desires to be, the people on the airplane were not military targets at all, nor were they simply collaterall damage, since killing them was an inherent part of the "action".

The statment above can be said often enough that some people will actually believe it, but not all people.

"...Its hard to know for sure, but your judgment is harsh..."

That's the one part of your post I'll agree with. By today's mealy-mouthed, 'I don't want to be judgmental' non-standards, I'm harsh as Hell. I'm unapologetically, in your face, no sh!t Sherlock, Harsh.

'You never know until you... yada, yada, yada, blah blah, woof woof'

Bullsh!t.

Normal parents instinctively protect their children. In this case 'protecting' that little sand flea would have taken the form of stuffing his little butt into that sweet spot corner that the 'father' has appropriated for himself, and then shielding him with your body. If you honestly doubt that, or don't know whether, you'd have taken such a measure to protect your little boy, then I pity him.

This isn't ambiguous. This is a failure to perform, plain and simple. The big arab protected himself as well as he could, and the little arab stopped (or slowed down) a bullet.

When it's life and death there is only one criterion for judging the players and that's bottom line results. "I tried", "I wanted to", "I dreamed and I schemed" are just a lot of crap in the absence of RESULTS.

I pity the kid. (even though he probably was a stone-thrower) I condemn the pathetic excuse for a father.

I'm Harsh that way.

I don't know for certain that we don't directly support the PA but I don't believe we do.

I don't know for certain either, but I believe we do. Notice that most of the PA police use M-16s, not the more usual Kalishnikov. Weapon of choice of tyrants and terrorists everywhere. (And of Gun Grabbers like Fienswine too, but that is being redundent) Not that freedom fighters won't use it too, if that's all they can get.
