Arafat: I'm willing to sacrifice 70 to die to kill one Israeli
Independent Media Review & Analysis ^ | Date: 18 December 2001 | Aaron Lerner

Posted on 12/18/2001 10:10:19 AM PST by the_second_moon

Israel Radio West Bank correspondent Avi Yissakharov reported this evening that Yasser Arafat declared in a fiery speech in Ramallah today that "all Palestinians are Muhammad al-Dura", that all Palestinians are martyrs. 12-year-old Muhammad al-Dura was killed in the Gaza Strip last year while his father tried to protect him from crossfire. Arafat called for all to join in the struggle to stop what he termed the Israeli program to Judaize Jerusalem. The crowd roared back to Arafat "millions of martyrs are already marching to Jerusalem." Israel Television Channel Two reported this evening that Arafat also told the crowd that "I am willing to sacrifice 70 martyrs to kill one Israeli" and called for a continuation of the struggle against Israel.

http://www.imra.org.il/story.php3?id=9342 Mr. Larsen calls on Israel to respond to President Arafat's speech [IMRA: "hear no evil see no evil?"] [IMRA: Unfortunately it appears that Mr. Larsen relied on favorable news reports and failed to read the text. If he had he would have learned that Arafat called only for the Palestininians not to carry out the kind of operations that the PA condemned in the past and in addition not to shoot mortars that give Israel an excuse to attack - a call that leaves considerable room for continuing with the murder of Israelis. He would have also noted that Arafat made clear that nothing being done to Israel constitutes "terror" and that he would only outlaw groups that engage in "terror" - so operations against Israel can continue without fear that the PA will close down any groups.] http://www.wafa.pna.net/EngText/18-12-2001/page005.htm Gaza December 18th Wafa (Official Palestine News Agency), Mr. Terje Rod Larsen the representative of Mr. Annan the UN Secretary General, called yesterday, on the Israeli Government to positively respond to the possibilities offered by President Arafat speech for the sake of the two peoples, the Israeli and the Palestinian. Mr. Larsen described President Arafat's speech as a historic and very important, and forms a turning point towards calming the area and returning to the negotiating table. He also said in a statement issued from his Gaza office that the parties should exert more efforts to benefit from the chance offered by the President. He added that he has told Mr. Peres that it is vital for Israel to recognize the opportunities offered by the speech, and Israel should respond in a similar manner, adding that the speech coincided with Palestinian important practical actions. He also added that the violence will not lead to peace and stability, considering the premeditated assassinations in these crucial moments as actions that do not help the peace process.

This is absolutely typical of these muslims. They will say one thing to us and another thing amongst themselves.

Yes, and then muslims wonder why they aren't seen in such a good light.

I remember the controversy regarding where the shots came from, but that isn't my question.

Your link describes the incident thusly:

"...Crouching in terror behind his father, who struggled in vain to protect his son from the gunfire, Mohammed was shot. He died there, cradled in his father's arms, after both father and son frantically pleaded for help..."

I remember an incident, caught on videotape (or film) that clearly showed a cowardly, clueless man absolutely failing to do what was required to (at least attempt) to protect his son from gunfire.

If it is the same incident, there's been a bit of 'revision' of the facts of the event.

He will not get one Israeli, American or for that matter any other national, even if he is willing to sacrifice a zillion mind numbed camel jockies.

What kinda optimization technique did he use to come to that number 70?

Arafat also told the crowd that "I am willing to sacrifice 70 martyrs to kill one Israeli"

Well, I would be offended to hear this if I were one of Arafat's potential martyrs. Is he saying that it takes 70 Palestinians to equal one Israeli?

/Wasn't that the poor little devil who's cowardly father rolled up in a ball beside him?>

Yes, from the pictures the child was shielding daddy's back for 45 minutes. But the Palestianians don't mind sacrificing their young. You would have thought the father would have grabbed his son and covered the child with his body. Better yet, hearing gunfire, he wouldn't have taken his little son into a fire zone in the first place.

I don't think that's fair.

He had nothing to fear from Israeli forces, they were in no position to hit him or his son. In his mind, he had nothing to fear from his fellow Arabs. If you look at it that way, in truth as it developed, every single one of his movements is understandable.

Their religion (Islam)is very straight forward and not hard to understand. Allah is the only god. Mohammed is his prophet. Non believers(infidels) should be converted. Those who won't convert should be killed. You are not obligated to deal in good faith with non muslims. -Tom

I'm afraid that your are right on target with this!

One of my favorite lines to say or post is: "When do liberals or left wingers lie to us?"

I should modify that to say"When do Left Wingers and their buddies, the Muslims lie to us?"

I would love to have two tape recordings of every Muslim leader in the US. The first when they lie to us about being peaceful, and the second one, when they are in their Mosque telling their beloved, "We must kill every American and every Jew in the World!"

Then each night Sean and O'Reilly could run the two tapes for America to see the reality of this peaceful Muslim religion!

Arafatty, as you pointed out does this 24/7. He lies to us about wanting peace, then he makes a talk to his rat packs about killing all the Jews! It is time for WWIII and our Jihad against Arafatty and all the Islamic fanatics throughout the world!

Thank God for Free Republic so we get to see the reality not what the left mediots want us to believe!

Incredible state of denial. A speech has never been material evidence in court. This is hearsay.

"That doesn't really sound like a sustainable rate of attrition to me, but if he insists on trying..."

Don't laugh, Pali's are having kids faster than you can say martyr. I read they have the highest birth rate in the Middle East. Not surprising considering how little value they place on life.

How about Tom Dachale, Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy, Barbra Boxer plus liberal to be named later for Yasser himself.

I think that the Israelis ought to hold out for an exchange rate of 700 to one and the option of a first-round draft pick next year.

Frankly-there is truth to what you say. I am begining to wonder about Arabs, I guess 'becoming suspicious' is a better way to say it. I mean, to say one thing to other national leaders and then to say a different thing to your countrymen is extremely deceitful. I believe Arafat has been doing this for a long time. Do we send our own money to Palestine? If so, it is time to stop. Arafat needs to know that all of his speeches and memos are being monitored and that if he practices two different opinions, one for foreign leaders, and another for his own people, no money will come his way, ever again.

Also-I just don't get the title. How is this a sacrifice to Arafat? He isn't one of the people dying.

One man's trash is another's treasure just as your terrorist is somebody else's patriot.

Cool the rhetoric, get out of the settlements, open Jerusalem and stop the target practice.

President Bush has put off moving the embassy to Jerusalem...that is a good sign. Tel-Aviv has served Israel well.
