Wife of Flight 93 Hero Gets Cold Shoulder from 9/11 Charities
Three months after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the wife of Flight 93 hero Jeremy Glick is struggling to make ends meet, since an array of charities created to help 9/11 victims have given her the brush off because of a technicality.
Lyzabeth Glick tells the New York Daily News that the national United Way hasn't been much help, telling her recently, "(your husband) was not in the World Trade Center, we're not giving you any funds."
The Federal Emergency Management Agency also gave Mrs. Glick and her two children the cold shoulder, explaining, "We're not giving any money to Flight 93 victims."
Even a promise from singer Kristy Jackson, who recorded "Little Did She Know" as a tribute to Jeremy Glick with an eye towards donating the proceeds to victims' families, hasn't panned out. Mrs. Glick says she has yet to see a cent from the song.
She, her young daughter and five-month-old son were at the White House Tuesday to commemorate the three month anniversary of the attacks, where they heard President Bush honoring the husband and father as "one of the heroes of Sept. 11" whose "courage may have saved the White House" when he and fellow Flight 93 passengers foiled the plans of the kamikaze hijackers at the cost of their own lives.
But her husband's hero status hasn't meant much in terms getting some of the money donated to 9/11 victims. After collecting a mere $5,000 from her local United Way and $25,000 from the Red Cross, she's now all tapped out.
With charity after charity giving Mrs. Glick the runaround, she now hopes to find a teaching job to keep the bank from foreclosing on her home.
INSURERS: WTC ATTACK NOT ACT OF WAR
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Some leading U.S. and European insurers say that the destruction of the World Trade Center was not an act of war, and therefore covered under most insurance policies. If other insurers take the same view, that means insurance companies around the world will have to pay out the $30 billion or so in claims expected by industry experts from the attack.
I've been thinking the same thing every time one of these people have come on TV complaining about money. WHERE'S THE LIFE INSURANCE! Has any interviewer (including the vaunted Bill O'Reilly) asked that question. I donated a nice sum to the Red Cross after the attack, but I realize it was only intended to get people through the crisis. I figured that there would be a delay getting claims paid while death certificates were processed.
But it still doesn't explain why these people have no money right now. Did these people have no insurance? I'd have to think that if the insurance companies were withholding claims, considering how we all consider insurance companies evil, the news shows would be screaming bloody murder.
So has anyone heard what is going on with life insurance? Has anybody heard any of the people interviewed asked about insurance?
They are both still listed on Yahoo, but there is a trust fund established in the names of Jeremy's wife and daughter, set up by his former employer.
Contributions may be made in the form of checks payable to "Jeremy Glick Memorial Fund." Checks should reference account number 3300314192 and be mailed to the following address: Silicon Valley Bank Attention: Farrah Conanan 3003 Tasman Drive, Mailsort HF 280 Santa Clara, California 95054
Thank you for saying this much better than I have. And since your family was affected, you have much more credibility to say it. Please tell your sister we are praying for her and her children.
Do you realize how much $30,000 would buy in most places? She's going to have a hard time getting sympathy around this country.
I know--someone already called me on that. I hate being wrong. It's a good thing this is the only time it's happened.
Try to remember this guy didn't die crossing the street. I hope his family is made secure for the rest of its days.
Since you have seen fit to damn a profession without evidence, please allow me to tell you that members of the NYC Bar Association donated their time to probate estates for the victims of 9/11 and helped to expedite other related matters.
Can we stop beating up the victim for a moment and get back to the original purpose of this thread...
TO BEAT UP THE CHARITIES!!!
I'm not falling for that trick question. I can't show you evidence of only $0.01 going to attorneys, because they took the entire $30,000.00!
I've wondered the same thing when reading these stories. What gives?
This is a continuing story. The 9/11 charities should be helping this woman. They should NOY be helping "charities" that provide lawyers for terrorists, and in the latest flap, sue the US government.
