Anyone got a link to the story on WA state authorities clubbing some "bad" salmon?
I read that they thought the hattery raised salmon would somehow automatically think that a shadow overhead was going to feed them instead of it being a hawk. Can't let those fish out to breed as they could have stupid offspring. Yeah, in one generation.

The action comes on the heels of the recent decision in Oregon by the Federal Court to de-list the Oregon Coastal Coho Salmon. The court called the listing arbitrary and capricious and without scientific merit. The case was argued and won by the Pacific Legal Foundation, who is also representing the Grange in this suit.

Although the ruling has been appealed by 8 enviro groups, it is very significant that the Bush Administration did not appeal Judge Hogan's ruling.
NMFS has one year to devise new policy(actually 11 months now). They have stated that they will have the rough draft by Feb 02.

"Rampant regulatory laws being imposed upon citizens by the utilization of junk science' in the application of the Endangered Species Act has awakened a sleeping giant," Lord, I hope so! People who actually live on and work land do not despoil it-- here in the South, some of the earliest conservationists ( in the old, honorable sense of the word ) were farmers, foresters, pulpwooders, hunters, and fishermen who saw the advantages of managing natural resources.

Good for Grange !!
My wife (a registered demo...soon to change) and I, a registered independent both voted for GWB.
I also worked in the Republican campaign and had several yard (much to the upset of a couple of my liberal neighbors) signs on my corner property...
It took all of our votes... {:~)
