The White House is escalating its attacks against Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle in an all-out drive to overcome Democratic resistance to a tax-cutting economic-stimulus bill that could be critical to the Republican Party's political prospects in the 2002 elections.

The title was used in the first reference to the president. Following that, according to journalistic style books, references use Mr., or if less respectfull, no title. They use the respectfull Mr. rather than the lest respectfull 'Bush said'.
First, take off the gloves. Second, get out the brass knuckles.

I WISH I could remember who pointed out the President's modus operandi: he gives an opponent multiple chances to do the right thing, but if they fail to do so, the hammer comes down. The Taliban and Hamass are learning this lesson. Daschle will be learning it shortly.
OK FReepers. It's time to lend the President a hand. I'm talking about a PAC that raises funds nationally and targets Tom Daschle's home state of South Dakota. The name would be "Free the Senate" and would focus on the fact that Tom Daschle is trying to have himself named King of the United States.
It isn't just this economic stimulus package. It's ANWR drilling. It's human cloning. It's federal judges. I'll bet FReepers could come up with many more examples. I know we can use words from Daschle's own speeches to show that his goal is to personally and individually block legislation that he personally and individually doesn't like. To heck with representing the people. To heck with the country. To heck with the Senate. All that matters is nominating himself king.
I say 'to heck with Tom Daschle'. I don't think his people voted for him to be king of the U.S. It's time to flood the S.D. airwaves to get the people of that great state to do two things. 1) Shut down Tom Daschle's office with phone and mail requests to start doing his job. 2) Replace him as soon as his seat comes open.
I have no idea how to form such a PAC, but I'll bet the knowledge and will exist here on FR. So those of you who know how, put up your ideas. Those of you who volunteer, say so. Let's organize our "Free the Senate" PAC and send this guy packing.
And when we're through the White House will look like an image seen through the wrong end of a telescope to him.
Shalom.
Let's roll!
Shalom.
Best description yet of Tom Thumb Daschle!

Daschle: super-majority Leader

* Tom Daschle has started a PR offensive to offset the quickly growing understanding among American voters that the Republican-controlled House has adopted:
- An energy bill,
- A faith-based initiative bill,
- An economic stimulus bill, and (as recently as last week),
- Fast-track authority for the President, the Trade Promotion Authority bill.
* While all that was going on, the ONLY thing the Daschle-controlled Senate has passed is a pay raise for itself.
* This pay raise thing was kind of interesting. There was a procedural vote at midnight, the other night - literally. Under the cover of darkness Senator Daschle allowed a vote which provides a $4,900 pay raise to $150,000. By the way, the Leadership gets more. The House and Senate Leaders will draw about $167,000.
* This was the same Tom Daschle who, amid much rending of flesh and railing against the gods, claimed that the House Leadership's refusal to negotiate the stimulus package in the face of the Daschle Rule was unthinkable in a time when people are losing their jobs.

"I don't think the recession is his fault," Mr. Daschle said. "
