I'm asking the question looking for replies and discourse that (hopefully) can raise above suggesting wiping one side or the other off the face of the earth, locking people up in a police state, or expelling either side from the land they occupy today (where would they go? and how would that really solve the problem other then pushing the problem somewhere else?).
What do you think is a viable long term solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and how would one go about making it happen?
As someone who is not of Judeo-Christian-Islamist cultural/religion background, I don't have an religious or idealogical dog in the fight. I have heard and read about the grievences and claims and counter-claims from both sides, while I sympathize, I'll admit that the grievences are not personal to me. I have spent a lot of time in both Israel and Arab nations due to work. I got along and liked the people I came in contact with in Israel and in the Arab states. I think the state of Israel has a right to a secured and peaceful existence, and I think the same for a Palestinian state. But I don't profess to have any idea how this can be realistically accomplished.
Although the Hashamites are slow learners (1948-1967), they do learn (1973)-which puts them a couple of steps ahead of the other Arabs. With all things being equal, Israel surrounded by Hashamites types would be the best all around. But in the real world they need to go, sacrificed to their creation (the "Palestinians").
Arabs in Israel are the minority. Minority status is never wholly comfortable. But they are not stupid, and when push comes to shove they know how well they have it in Israel.
Late night typo from the deep pleasant subconscious.
We had commercial airliners before 1948 and 1967. We had ammonium nitrate. We had dynamite. Many thousands and even millions of American lives are now in great jeopardy because of our continued support of Israel. Israel was helpful to us back in the era when Russia was supporting several Arab nations, but its no longer of any use at all to us. Its only a liability. There are plenty of Jews in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, and all over the country. We dont have to support Israel in order to prove we like Jews. I like American Jews, except for the Zionistic and racist ones, who are making some tremendous blunders in the Middle East right now. This is turning into a big public relations debacle for Jews in general and for Israel specifically. I dont think American dollars should go to help subsidize American Zionist vacation condos in Palestine.

I'm not sure I fully understand your point here. Perhaps you might wish to elaborate on it to make it all crystal clear.
Jews in Arab lands were nobody. They could not own land under Islamic law and if a charge was brought against them from a Moslem they were guilty without trial. What goes around comes around.
Pay off the head of each Palestinian household, big time. It amazes me that the Israelis, with all those generations of commercial acumen supposedly behind them, have never thought of this. The chance to solve a problem using Saudi, American, and UN money should prove irresistible.
Kenny Bunk says, Think of the taking over of Israel as buying a slum property with undesirable tenants. Before you fix up the place, you have to relocate them."
This never got done. This simple oversight seems to have been the basic flaw in the original Zionist game plan.
