VANITY - Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, what solution would YOU propose?
Just Me

Posted on 12/04/2001 3:22:18 PM PST by Republican Party Reptile

I'm asking the question looking for replies and discourse that (hopefully) can raise above suggesting wiping one side or the other off the face of the earth, locking people up in a police state, or expelling either side from the land they occupy today (where would they go? and how would that really solve the problem other then pushing the problem somewhere else?).

What do you think is a viable long term solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and how would one go about making it happen?

As someone who is not of Judeo-Christian-Islamist cultural/religion background, I don't have an religious or idealogical dog in the fight. I have heard and read about the grievences and claims and counter-claims from both sides, while I sympathize, I'll admit that the grievences are not personal to me. I have spent a lot of time in both Israel and Arab nations due to work. I got along and liked the people I came in contact with in Israel and in the Arab states. I think the state of Israel has a right to a secured and peaceful existence, and I think the same for a Palestinian state. But I don't profess to have any idea how this can be realistically accomplished.

Just realized what I wrote. 18 instead of 19, it is US/Mexico, not Israel/Jordan. Wonder if that means something.

I don’t know, but I’m trying to figure it out.

I’ve got that map too......

Right, and Jews agreed to the UN plan. And there were no problems till arabs started the war in 1967 (not to mention the wars before that). By the way, arabs rejected that UN plan.

humans are born with). Do Palestinians have the right to vote? To own property? Until they do, then the Israeli government is no better than the former South African government. They are practicing a form of apartheid.

Uh, you are confusing 2 different things. Israeli arabs vote and have people in the knesset. Palestinians in west bank and gaza are not citizens, hence they can't vote. I don't hear you complaining about non citizens in US not being able to vote.

hence they can't vote.

They don't vote in Israel. But they do vote. They voted for Arafat and the "Palestinian" assembly (or whatever it called).

As was written above- they voted: at least once. That is not up to Israel.

The entire financial system of the Ottoman Empire was based on the upward flow of bribes. It was formalized corruption.

Hey, look, just admit it. This is a very simple case. In the late 19th Century a large number of nationalistic European Jews decided they wanted to take over Palestine, and within about 60 years, they took over half of Palestine. During the next 50 years they took all but about 1/4 of Palestine, and they occupied the entire country. During the next 50 years they’ll have all of Palestine.

I’ve got a copy of Gottheil’s 1914 book, “Zionism”, and it explains what Herzl originally envisioned. It tells about the Pre-Herzlites too.

I just don’t like to see people thrown out of their homes, and I don’t like to see women and children killed, on either side.

Seems to me that the Arab land should just be bought and the owners relocated like in an “eminent domain” situation, now that Syria, Egypt, and Jordan don’t seem very interested in Palestine any more.

The business about Palestinian Arabs “voting” in Israel is nonsense, since their population inside the country is limited. I doubt if Israel will ever allow more Palestinian citizens than Jewish citizens. That’s silly. Israel should just drop that “democratic” fakery, since no one is falling for it. It just makes Israelis seem stupid, when they try to convince the Western world that Israel is “democratic”.

If the palestinians really live in such deplorable conditions, then why do they have 7-8 kids each on average?

Did you folks see that thread with that poll that seemed to imply that Arab Israeli opinion was not all that dissimilar to Jewish Israeli opinion regarding under what circumstances Israel should accept/create a Palestinian state? Yep, if true, it surprised me too, or at least me.

The difference is between people who want to make something of themselves and be righteous citizens, and those who have nothing to offer their fellow citizens, or the rest of the world.

Totally relaxed. Even after reading post #8...."Exterminate the Palestinians". Even after the same poster made his point clear in #63 ...."Some people need killing...the Palestinian POPULATION has just risen to that level"

Exterminate? A POPULATION that needs killing? No differentiation made between ages, genders, etc in the word population.

Webster: population: "the whole number of people or inhabitants in a country or region."

You are correct...no one is "committing" genocide against the Palestinians. BUT, this poster is, with no uncertainty, suggesting it as a solution. Are you ok with that? I'm not and won't pretend to be.

1947, 1949; Israel/Jordan-the map changed. 1847, 1849; US/Mexico-the map changed. Both established facts, on the ground.

You seem to have a tendency to project your opinions onto others. Some might view that as evidencing hubris. And although it may come as a shock to you, not all those that don't share your opinions are idiots, or members of the vast Israeli conspiracy, or indulging in dual loyalties, or whatever your flavor of the day is. Just a thought.
