5,000 Freepers who care are needed now!
Donate to Free Republic ^ | 30 November 2001 | Grampa Dave

We need the stewardship of 5,000 Free Republic members to insure the continuation of the Free Republic Life Form!

Jim Robinson said in yesterday's post: "My projections are that our regular monthly expenses for next year will be running in the neighborhood of $22,000 per month, or approximately $264,000 total for the year. This means we will need to raise approximately $66,000 per quarter."

If 5,000 Free Republic members who believe in paying their own way and that no free lunch ever exists, pledge $5/month. Jim's goals and needs will be quickly surpassed!

5,000 good stewards of Free Republic pledging $5/month will total $75,000 per quarter. That would allow Jim/John a little breathing room!

Many of us donate more per month than that. So please don't reduce your donation. We just need 5,000 regular pledgers to make things easier for Jim.

Are there 5,000 good Stewards out there who can afford $5/month to keep alive the Free Republic Life Form?

One way to afford this is to cancel your subscription to your left wing fish wrap or bird cage liner. Donate half of that monthly cost to your favorite charity and the rest to Free Republic. If you do this, you remove your money from the enemies of America and invest it with the friends of America, Free Republic! That would be a double winner for America!

Become one of the 5,000 Freepers who believe that there is no Free Republic lunch and that only parasites want something for free! Sign up for $5/month on a monthly auto payment plan!

If you mean that we should find a conservative George Soros type to fund Free Republic, I would respectfully disagree. We aren't a 527, we are a conservative news discussion forum, and I believe that it would be best to keep it that way .

We do a good job of raising the funds needed to help Jim keep Free Republic on-line and growing.

If every Freeper cancelled their subscriptions to any left wing bird cage liner or so called weekly news mag and sent that savings to Free Republic the strength and power of Free Republic would be even more awesome.

Movies as you noted are another awesome savings potential and transfer of funds. As you noted, if a couple drops one movie per month (tickets, popcorn and drink plus parking maybe), they could become a $/day donor to Free Republic.

Follywood lefties like Michael Moore, the BS and other lefties would lose, and conservatives would gain.

Both of the choices above are double wins for our side. We win and the liberals lose.

I agree. I appreciate FR and it has done a lot of good but it really needs to progress and redesign to be current (XHTML and CSS code) and faster. I'm sure some tweaks could even cut down on bandwidth usage.

FR has basically been untouched for the past couple years. If it were redesigned or even just improved it would go a long way towards attracting new members and improving the Freeping experience.

John/Jim would you please list the changes that Free Republic has had in just the last two years.

To: Hildy; All

My turn to rant now.

I'm sitting here all day finishing up (you have my permission to laugh) our family Christmas newsletter. And every now and then, I pop over to FR to check the latest headlines. It's hard not to notice the FR donation tally, and the fact that it has *hardly moved* since LAST NIGHT!!!

FReepers -- WHAT is up with THAT?

Jeez Louise, I am single-parenting things while my husband has been on active duty, and we are having to closely watch our outflow of money. Dh's civilian job was directly affected by 9-11 and his salary was cut by 30-40% since that time b/c he works in the airline industry. We'll be so fortunate if he still has a job next year at this time. At the moment both of our cars are in the shop with some major hiccups -- mine is ten years old. Neither of our children are enrolled in lessons of any sort (we're trying to bump this up in our prioritization). I don't think I've purchased a single outfit for myself in 4 years, we don't go to the movies, we clip coupons, and I have years ago forgotten the password to my atm card.

I know there are many, many others worse off than we are. Heck, I know that to be where I am is fortunate. I am not complaining about where we sit, I'm just trying to figure out why the donation tally has not moved.

I am not a latte drinker and I go to Starbucks *maybe* twice a year.

Isn't it feasible to forgo one treat like this per month, expecially when that money would help those of us at FR maintain majority rule, and keep the slimeballs away from the President's office? Please, folks...donate now. This is making me very sad.

Now back to my newsletter...

Thanks for the service your husband, you and your family are doing for the rest of us.

Thanks for your donations to Free Republic:

thanks

I just want to hear that someone isn't going to have a pedicure so we can keep Hillary at bay. There are all kinds of people here on FR, and I realize for the most part we all just spent money for Christmas. But, Jee whiz...

I understand that some hardware may have been purchased and some minor things may have been adjusted but the code is still very very old. The pages are still rendered in HTML 4.01 (not XHTML) which could cause them to load slower and look odd on some machines. I'm not a troll or anything I'm just wondering why there haven't been any significant front-side updates (who knows what has happened on the backend). I know there are probably a lot of programmers/coders on FR that would be more than glad to help... and I understand that FR probably uses a from scratch system to avoid attacks and exploits. Just some thoughts.

Have you visited the home page recently?

We have had a lot of changes in the past year. In fact many of the old timers complain about the changes.

We will let John Rob answer your question re changes.

Well said. I hope everyone realizes just how much they get out of FR compared to non-essentials in their lives that are not providing them with that much info, camaraderie, humor, and even when needed, moral and spiritual support.

Cough it up, peeps.
