I've been studying American History for 23 years. I hold a BA in History from UT Austin. My grandfather was a wetback who didn't speak a lick of English. 60 years later his son and grandson are college grads living comfortable upper middle class lives. My father used an ROTC scholarship to pay his way through school and served in the US Army for nearly 20 years. I used the Army College Fund to pay for the last year of my school. I served one 4 year term with the 1st Cavalry Division, including service in the Gulf War and a subsequent deployment to Kuwait. So don't tell me Mexicans don't assimilate and don't work. Hell, I don't even speak Spanish.

Your opinions are factually incorrect, racist, disgusting and decidedly un-American. You would be well advised to crack a book some day and pause just for second to remember who you are and where you come from. Mexicans do all the shitty jobs that natives don't want to do. Just like the Irish, Chinese, Italians etc. did before them. Mexicans have come to this country for the all same reasons as our ancestors.

I would have just said that his opinions are different than yours. I don't consider myself racist, disgusting or unamerican, yet I happen to be against immigration, as it is currently practiced. The majority of non-citizens taking up permanent residence in our nation today are illegals. Their first act upon entering our country is to break the law. I don't find this to be a desirable trait for someone entering my country.

On every anti-immigration post at FR it is inevitable that those against are branded racist and are reminded that this is a nation of immigrants. I'll ignore the racist thing (it's so over-used that it is now irrelevant) and agree with the 'nation of immigrants' thing. Past waves of immigrants were needed to populate this nation, but the wide open spaces are long gone. Past waves of immigrants assimilated within a generation or two but that is not the case anymore. Past waves of immigrants supported themselves but now we (taxpayers) do. The argument that these immigrants work to support themselves may be true if a single individual comes here, but saying that a non-skilled day laborer pays the way for himself and the large family that always follows is bull.

Immigration serves two purposes these days. It gives business and the wealthy a subsidized pool of hardworking laborers, maids, gardeners, day care workers, servants, etc. and it increases the numbers of supporters of the massive, centralized welfare state. The people that are allowing the invasion of our country are isolated from all the negative effects. Outside their gated communities however, the middle class pays the price. High taxes, crime, lowered wages and lack of entry-level oppurtunities for unskilled citizens are just some of the negative effects.

I see from other posts that you are American of mexican descent. That makes us fellow countrymen. Try to understand that I don't hate mexicans, eastern europeans, chinese or any other group seeking to come here. I do, however want to keep my country and my culture from becoming a mirror image of theirs. I'm sorry that other countries are badly off but it's not my fault and I damn sure shouldn't have to pay for it.

You call your grandfather a wetback ? He must be real proud of you. So nice that you can use racist remarks against your family members from one side of your two faces while attacking the opinions of others as racist comments..........

How long have you been a member of the flat earth society ?

As one "hispanic" to another, I have been reading your posts with amusement and you seem to somewhat detached of the reality. I live in a heavily hispanic area in NY and speak quite often to people here, many which are "illegals". The reality is that the vast majority do not see themselves as immigrants who are stuck here permanently. There is also another group (many born here) which insists on mantaining a separate existence in both language and culture and have no intention of assimilating into what they derogatorily refer to as the Anglo culture. As a matter of course many of them hold radical left wing ideas and think Fidel Castro is the greatest thing since the wheel.

I have gotten into arguments many a time over this attitude. To cite just one case where Domincans on my block flew their flag during Dominican holidays and yet refuse to fly the Stars and Stripes on July 4. In another case I overheard a conversation among some Mexicans in a bodega deriding this country and government. These occurences I run into almost every day, even after 911. These people are here to establish "Colonias", they are willing to take our money and live here, but if they had their way they would set up separate nations and states. Because I speak Spanish, these people will tell me things they would never tell an "anglo".

I have seen the same phenomenon and attitude among Middle Easterners.

As I have stated previously on another thread as well as this one. Most immigrants today have no intention of assimilating or integrating into the general society or of becoming Americans. Indeed many of these people have particularly anti-american attitudes. As far as they are concerned if things don't go well they are just one cheap airplane ticket back home. They have the easy option of returning back home. The immigrants of a century ago had no such options. Theirs was a one way trip ticket and they knew by coming here there was no turning back. They came here to stay and to become Americans. That in the end is the significant difference.

They also did not have a political establishment that pandered to them by establishing a separate language educational system to perpetuate the separatness. The Balkanization of this country is the direct consequence of the "multiculturalist" policies promoted by the Democrats in search of a voter base and the corporate Republicans in search of cheap labor and profits.

That is the reality we face.

Being an immigrant I am not naturaly oppsed to immigration. However, I am opposed to immigration if the only purpose of the immigrants is to come here and colonize this country without having any intention of assimilatiing and becoming Americans both culutraly and linguistically. If they come here just to suck on the big US tit without contributing to the country then it's not worth having them here.
