My brother said it was because they couldn't make a bad song.

Your brother hit the proverbial nail on the head. That's exactly right. I may be wrong, but few other bands, if any, have managed to imitate that feat, either.

John, I think the Beatles came along at the right time in history to fill a void. Their simple melodies and unique look gained them extreme popularity. But their music morphed from those simple melodies and lyrics into complex orchestrated arrangements. Couple that with the transition of simple songs about love and adolescence up through the drug culture and legitimate treatments of business and other serious topics.

I can't think of another group in history that morphed their music style, their looks and the topics covered by their music more than the Beatles did.

There are very few of their songs that I can think of that I didn't want to hear over and over again. Their Sgt. Peppers and White Album are unquestionably two of the most creative and groundbreaking albums for their time in recording history as far as I am concerned. They were so far advanced beyond what others were doing that there was simply no comparison.

I think it would be difficult for anyone to understand the impact of the Beatles unless they lived during the time they were popular.

So prophetically his lyrics virtually shaped a generation.

Give me love
Give me love
Give me peace on earth
Give me light
Give me life
Keep me free from birth
Give me hope
Help me cope, with this heavy load
Trying to, touch and reach you with,
heart and soul

OM M M M M M M M M M M M M M
M M M My Lord . . .

The quietest and most thoughtful of the Beatles. I always liked the songs he wrote. He'll be missed.

I remember his singing in the movie "Hard Day's Night":

I don't want to kiss or hold your hand...
If it's funny try and understand...
There is really nothing else I'd rather do...
'Cause I'm happy just to dance with you...

Guess I remember George that way. A good guy, who just wanted everyone to have a good time enjoying life's simple pleasures.

I just last week picked up "Bangladesh" on CD at the Wherehouse. It had been one of my vinyl favorites. I wanted to hear George at his best before he passed.

I was just born when the Beatles came of age with their hit song, I want to hold your hand, whose release was accompanied with their maiden tour of the U.S.

I was 10 and Kennedy had been assasinated less than three months before. The country was still in mourning and we were depressed about our future. I'll never forget the impact the Beatles made on this country.

I heard the buzz at school about a new band from England and the single had just hit the top 40. (I knew all this from older siblings.) I saw them on Ed Sullivan, smiling, laughing, cracking wise, playing American rock and roll.

English guys acknowledging our music. Who would have thought that would happen? Our culture was ridiculed in Britain. But there they were big as life, and they made us feel good about ourselves again. The Beatles brought America out of it's funk. I am sorry George is gone.

That's so very true, my friend. So very true.

The concert for bangladesh is available on CD.
I still listen to Harrison's music several times a year.
My favorite is the Dark Horse collection.

I wish him well in his passing, and thank him for the legacy he left behind.

Harrison was one of the good guys.

My Sweet Lord and the concert for Bangladesh album stick in my mind as much as the traditional Beatles staples do in others. He was a link to a simpler and happier time.

Very well stated, my friend.

I'll never forget the impact the Beatles made on this country.

Neither will I. They were the true musical revolutionaries. They were always on the cutting edge. Always.

Later when they became famous in the US my friend and I had a good laugh about trying to discover "The Beatles"! Oh well....Ed Sullivan had to do something I guess!

LOL I think I have a bias for 3 chord rock 'n' roll since that was the only 3 chords I could master. The Beatles were just too "professional" for me.

Just heard over here on Paltalk, in the Freeper room. May GOD bless and keep his soul. My sympathies to his family. He has brought great joy to many people over the many years. He will be missed. Maybe he and John are reunited and just waiting for the rest...
