Not many, I suspect .. and most would keep their heads down given the sickening hatred shown by some of the nutters here.

Having said that, the anti-media vitriol is no worse than that laid out over at DU.

It seems we must be doing something right to be equally hated by froot-loops on both extremes :-)

Regards

Sadim

My favorite columnist in our local hometown paper is a Freeper, a frequent poster, and a good one.

I work in the media, and I was annoyed with some posts about an SUV driver who plowed into a crowd of fans at a Cincinnati Bengals game. Because the headline used the phrase "SUV driver," some Freepers "knew" that the writer hated SUVs and the self-reliant folks who drive them, "as most media people do."

Sorry about the lengthy, off-topic reply here, folks:

I won't generalize about "most media people", but it was quite obvious that the author of that article had an agenda. The unfortunate accident was the result of a parapalegic driving a car not suited for his capabilities--NOT the car. Yet, the author didn't hesitate to inject the SUV acronym or sport utility vehicle term throughout the story. The phrases appeared no fewer than 10 times in a rather short article.

As Bill Clinton taught us, if you say something loud enough and often enough, the masses will believe it.

Instead of saying "SUV" or "sport utility vehicle" 10 times, the author should have said "STUPID DRIVER" 10 times, to reinforce the actual fault. Calling the SUV a "vehicle" or "car" would have been more fair and balanced, and would have gone a long way toward deemphasizing the SUV as the culprit.

I remember a news story about a 90+/- year old woman who drove into a building in the NY/NJ area about 10 years ago, and the main emphasis of the article was on maintenance history of that particular car model (it turns out there weren't any problems with the car), and not on the capabilities of the driver. So often, the story doesn't follow the obvious trail, but tries to make excuses or find others at fault. Why is that?

I'm not in the media. I just hate the media. I like to post any embarrassing story about any of these Clymers. I hope that I can be instrumental in getting rid of jerks like Matt Liar, Katie Colon, Dan Rather Biased, Suzanne Malveaux and others too numerous to mention.

I went to journalism school and worked for a couple of radio stations, then a wire service, before going into advertising.(Now I am home being my kids' mom, thank God). I was already getting cold feet about the whole thing in school, when it became clear I was surrounded by rabid Democrats who automatically overlooked any wrongs -- adultery, drunkenness and corruption, especially) in pro-abortion pols, but went after ANY perceived flaw in pro-family candidates. I found it scary.

I'm in the media. Done tours at two networks, and seen more than enough to know that just about everything Freepers believe about them is true.

I think the article came out before it was known that the driver was paraplegic and that the teen had died. It was a sports brief. I happened to be listening to the game on the radio and heard it as breaking, local news - people hit in front of the Bengals stadium. The radio news many have mentioned in passing that it was an SUV, I don't remember.

There are a lot of things I dislike about the mainstream media, but I do think some SUV fans overreacted in this particular case. The reporter may not have even written the headline, or he may have had a detail-oriented editor who "had" to know the make of the vehicle. Again, I see newsroom people at my paper driving SUVs, so I know that not "all" the mainstream media hates them.

BTW, I don't own an SUV, but I don't care who drives what as long as they drive like they have some sense. I'm live and let live on most things.

Don't really "work" in media, but I wrote a monthly opinion column for a small-town newspaper for a while, free of charge, and have a law-related call-in radio show now twice a month - "Your Legal Aide" on WGPR 107.5 Detroit. I pay for the time myself, and have sponsors to offset the cost. Hope to do a segment soon on the new Michigan "shall-issue" concealed carry laws.

About making excuses and/or finding fault with others. The reason the media does that is because they have an agenda of course. In the SUV case, it is a bunch of earth loving Goreites who want to get rid of SUV's because they are gas guzzling, environment polutting, hogs in their warped minds.

My ambition in life at one time was to be an investigative reporter, took journalism in school, but now I have no respect for media types at all.
