If the engine fell off on takeoff, with a full plane, and fully-fueled, it would not have made it five miles. The Chicago DC-10 lost the engine on takeoff, got maybe 500 feet off the ground (I actually think it only asceneded 100 feet) rolled and nosedived just a few hundred yards from O'Hare. My bro-in-law is a United flight mechanic, and he told me several months ago that would never happen again, due to design changes.

A "volunteer fireman" via CNN says the engine hit a 3 story house. House's occupants are okay.

I'm trying to get a 2d point of view from a network other than Fox. The networks have: Katie Couric, Bryant Gumbel, and the Freepers' favorite, Petey Jennings. Ughh!

LOL, I have to agree with you. If a damned pelican or albatross or whatever large bird can be sucked through an engine without damage, I'm pretty damned sure it could survive a .30-06 round. Now some 20mm rounds or .50's maybe not...but then again where the "reported" explosion occurred indicates otherwise.

how accurate are those triggers...could they be very accurate, or are they loaded with deadband. I would guess that the triggers could not respond to pressure changes close to ground...but the gauges, altimeters and such, in planes are accurate...

Ok folks. This is why people think right wingers are nuts. This is why people think freepers are nuts.Screw what "people" think. It's long past time to be worried about whether we offend the sensibilities of the politically correct. Let the discussion flow free.

MSNBC now reporting firefighter says engine fell off, on fire hitting a house.

Whether the UN was the intended target or not, all them boys inside got a pretty good look and feel for terrorism up close so they won't be talking about it in the abstract...if it does prove to be terrorism.

Would be interesting since on ABC eyewitness Ms Lock(sp)stated to Peter (yeahwho) Jennings, that she heard a rumble and she looked and saw the nose of the plane and went down. And with Rudy's interview, RUDY ROCKS!!!

WABC -- Retired firefighter, lives on 141st Street in Rockaway, saw explosion in air and then wing fell off.

ABC has had the Jackie Powers chick on for the past hour. Her panicky reports are good radio, but she sounds like a kook. I heard her report and in no way did she sound like a kook. She sounded a little excited, but who wouldn't be? She was very throrough and coherent.

For God's sake, stop yelling at your fellow Freepers. Trying to alter human nature to stop humans from being human is ridiculous. We will all come to the truth eventually. Chill!
I've been at FR longer than you have; every breaking story has evolved just like this one is. We really are adults, really!!

Yes, you're correct. Soon they will twist things so that all the people who did see clear evidence of a bomb will be silenced. That is not consistent with the CNN mantra of 'no evidence of a terrorist attack' which I am hearing already on CNN.
I truly am amazed, yet again, at the absolute stupidity shown by the people posting on this board. There are so many who will take whatever CNN tells them as the complete gospel truth. Their faith in CNN is absolute rock solid. That is scary.
I ask you this: how many 'crashes' out of JFK will it take until they wake up? It has been at least four already. Will it be ten, twenty, or fifty 'crashes' out of JFK before people start to see the obvious?
The scary part is not really that they are so easily fooled by CNN. It is that they attack anyone, like me, who holds thte truth out to them. They know nothing about the details of the Swiss Air, Egypt Air, etc. flights but instead expect me to spoon feed them the details. They prefer to just let CNN decide things for them and to tell them what to believe.

I have uploaded a hypersnaped jpeg photo of the flight tracker information on this flight taken immediately after the story broke. But it is on an old geocities account that will not hold up to the many hits it will receive from FreeRepublic. Maybe someone could retrive it and post?
